Yeah. No. Not at all.
This, this is what you tell any Trump voters who insist that they’re worried about being judged for the choice they made to elect this man.
You will be judged. The outcome is not upsetting people based on some philosophical difference. It’s upsetting people because it will have a death toll. This is the disconnect, the divide, that the “well-intentioned Trump voter” fundamentally does not seem to grasp.
Don’t ask people to be pleasant towards you after what you’ve condemned millions of Americans to suffer for the next four years. If the worst that has happened to you is being called a bigot, a racist, a misogynist, understand that you have nothing on the rest of your fellow American minorities who experience more verbal and physical backlash every day of their lives for existing, and will now experience even more. They don’t owe you a handshake, a smile, a “let’s agree to disagree”. They don’t owe you anything.
“nobody protested when Obama became president!!1!11!”, well Obama didn’t insult every minority in the book, Obama didn’t sexually assault women, Obama didn’t try to put a “ban” on a religion, Obama didn’t have an extremely homophobic running mate, Obama didn’t spread hatred
‘Do you think it’s possible for an entire nation to be insane?’
…
‘That’s a very…interesting question, sir,’ he said. ‘You mean the people–’
‘Not the people, the nation,’ said Vimes. ‘Borogravia looks off its head to me, from what I’ve read. I expect the people just do the best they can and get on with raising their kids, which, I might say, I’d rather be doing right now, too. Look, you know what I mean. You take a bunch of people who don’t seem any different from you and me, but when you add them all together you get this sort of huge raving maniac with national borders and an anthem.’
“You raised me to respect the truth; to know it is the root of all virtue. I’m asking if you’re sending me away because someone might ask me what happened in this house last night and I would tell them.”
“Abigail, I understand that you’re upset…”
“Why aren’t you? A man and a woman rescued me, cared for me, delivered me home; now one of them is dead. The other is about to be, and the only man, it seems to me, to have committed a crime in all this still works for you. Is that not the truth?”

I don’t know how else to put this: it’s immoral to study poor people and publish the results of that study in [a] journal run by a for-profit company that charges more for your article than what the household you studied has to buy food this week. I cannot think of any valid excuse for publishing social research this way.
When people say they remember their childhood perfectly and not in bits and pieces with mostly a black void of nothingness like me

The problem with being a writer is that you have to be your characters.
You can’t write a charming character by saying they’re charming, you actually need to be charming and write them charming dialog. You can’t just state somebody is smart, you need to write smart things for them to say and do.
When you make a reference and someone actually gets it
