Weirdly anti-millennial articles have scraped the bottom of the barrel so hard that they are now two feet down into the topsoil
its so wild like “this generation with no fucking money is learning to prioritize essentials” and all these chucklefucks can write is advertisements for these companies
at least our jeans won’t tear at the seams after two washes
FUCK FABRIC SOFTENER IT’S UTTERLY POINTLESS
AND FUCK DRYER SHEETS LITERALLY NOBODY EVER HAS ENOUGH OF A PROBLEM WITH STATIC TO WARRANT PAYING OUT THE ASS FOR THAT SHIT
DO YOU WANT CLEAN CLOTHES? YOU DON’T EVEN NEED TO BUY FUCKING DETERGENT JUST MAKE YOUR OWN* IT’S SO GODDAMN EASY AND 80X CHEAPER
FUCK THE ENTIRE LAUNDRY INDUSTRY
*Fuck The Entire Laundry Industry Recipe
1 cup Washing Soda (not Baking Soda. Different things.)
1 cup Borax (not Boric Acid. Also a different thing.)
½ cup – 1 cup grated bar soap (you can use literally anything. I often use Ivory because it’s easy to get and I find it works well, a lot of people like Fels-Naptha, which is an actual laundry bar. Some people use Dr. Bronner’s. Really does not fucking matter.)
After grating your soap, combine all ingredients. That’s it. That’s the whole thing. Use maybe a ¼ cup per load.
^^^ I’ve done this for years now and it works as well as any store bought detergent
WHAT
Thank you, tumblr user awfullydull! Your URL does no justice to the good advice you give!we’ve been making our own detergent bc no money and there are like ten people living in my home so it’s an unnecessary expense
my clothes smell nicer than they ever have with store bought stuff
omfg i actually saw fabric softener rebranded as ‘fabric conditioner’ in an advert last night. i laughed so hard because i am p sure this is why. i haven’t used it in years.
but dryer sheets… if you live in an area that is v dry in the winter, like parts of the midwest (or as i’m finding in utah) they’re very good to have. you do in fact get enough static to need them. i could probably get away without in hawai’i, but not on the mainland in drier states.
Yeah, in upstate NY you’d get literal static sparks off laundry sometimes without the sheets. It was nutty.
But, there is ONE useful function for liquid fabric softener.
Mix 1 part liquid softener to 3 parts water (ideally distilled but it’s not a huge deal, just make sure it didn’t get mildewey if it sits too long) and put it in a spray bottle.
If you have wrinkled clothing, hang them up or lay them flat on something, mist them, and then smooth them out. No iron needed. Super handy for when you’re in a rush. Or just hate to iron. Or you’re dealing with shit that can’t be ironed easily like velvety stuff.
It works even better if you do that and let it hang for a bit in a hot steamy room. Like, say, while you’re in the shower before getting dressed.
Otherwise though you might as well just put a few drops of essential oil in the laundry or something, since it’s really just “fabric residue and nice smell liquid.“
(someone from lush once told me she put about a 1cm square chunk of bubble bar in her laundry for the smell but I don’t want to experiment on that in my house’s washer since it’s not mine)
We just use white vinegar instead of fabric softener. It keeps the washer cleaner, the clothes smell better, and it’s a lot cheaper.
