things I’d love to see drawn more: Flint reading

just everywhere, in bed, on deck, on the porch of Miranda’s cottage, in London, on the ship during his days as a lieutenant, in Thomas’s bed, on the quarterdeck when he’s bored, at his desk with his boots propped up, on the floor by the window seat while Silver rests, in the cell in S4, reading to Silver anywhere, finding new books post-reunion, stretched out under a fruit tree, in a meadow with Thomas’s head resting in his lap, just more Flint and his books, all the books and Flint just taking any chance he can get to read

MODERN AU READING, FLINT IN A LIBRARY, CARRYING A STACK OF BOOKS TO BE CHECKED OUT,

FLINT PERUSING A BOOK STORE, FLINT ACCIDENTALLY ON A TALL LADDER AND DROPPING A BOOK ON THOMAS’S HEAD AND THAT’S HOW THEY MEET

FLINT WATCHING BEAUTY AND THE BEAST AND EVERYBODY KNOWS HIS FAVORITE PART IS WHEN THE BEAST GIVES BELLE THE LIBRARY

OCCASIONALLY HE GETS DRUNK AND CRIES ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT’S JUST THE MOST PERFECT GIFT

“THINK OF ALL THOSE BOOKS”

YES! YES.

OK but…re modern au…when they move in together for the first time, it’s a fairly small apartment, but with two bedrooms. James is kind of like ‘lol why would we need two bedrooms’ but is like ‘well I guess it’s useful’. Thomas moves in before Thomas and calls in every person and favour he can and makes the second bedroom into a library, which he gives to James. James fucking cries. (Obviously they still have a bookshelf or two in every other room as well).

Also just. The fact that Thomas says James is ‘more well-read than any boy I knew at eton’ or whatever like…the fact that this was something that his superiors noted…enough to tell Thomas…James is literally reading every single moment he gets the chance.

anytime Thomas gets home after James he knows exactly where to find him in the apartment, it’s always in the library with a cup of tea lost in a book. and Thomas just SMILES at him.

He’s SO HAPPY just to be able to make James happy

James: I don’t really NEED a paperback of that book, I have it on my Kindle

Thomas: but you love touching it too

James: it’s not the only thing I love touching

Thomas: please tell me you don’t touch the books quite like you touch me

James: I am an unrepentant book toucher and I have no regrets

I’m not sure what I like the idea of better, James touching Thomas like a book or James touching a book like Thomas.
