His name is Kouji. He’s a housetrained, vaccinated, fixed, lovable ball of fluff who needs a home that will love him back. I’ll be moving to Queensland where they don’t allow rabbits as pets. He’s a house bunny, and he loves nothing more than falling asleep on my lap while I write or play videogames. If I lie down in his pen with him, he’ll come over and lick my face before flopping down with me. He loves the occasional trip to the backyard. His favourite foods are dandelions, kale, chinese broccoli, apples, strawberries, and bamboo.
He comes with: a rug for him to run around on (so he doesn’t damage your floor), a split-level cage, litterbox, metal fence (to set up the boundaries of His Space), carrier cage, food bowl, water bottle, leash and harness, brush, nail clippers, towel, food container, kitty litter, bag of hay, and a huge box of spare newspapers and plastic bags (for daily littlebox changes).
I love this guy, and he’s been with me for over 6 years. He still has a lot of life and love left in him, so I don’t want to abandon him to a shelter or have him put down by the government. He’s quiet, clean, soft, cuddly, and I am going to miss him terribly.

Tumblr can be a really cool place. But sometimes it’s difficult to separate the kind of fandom interaction you want from what you don’t want.
For example, I love the Black Sails tag, and have spent more than three years sporadically interacting with it, and with the wonderful people I’ve met here. That being said, I, for example, can’t stand ship wars. But if I want to interact with the people in the tag, I can’t avoid it. If I go into the Black Sails tag, I’m going to encounter all things associated with the show, whether or not I was looking for it. No one tags ship wars, that’s not something you can blacklist. This often results in me staying out of the tag, and I have to miss out on the fandom interaction I wanted, if I want to avoid any temporary drama.
Which is kind of sad. (Don’t get me wrong, sometimes I love drama. And some drama can lead to good and important discussions. But it’s not something I always want to get in to.)
So I decided to do something about that. I created a discord server.
With a discord server, there can be rules, akin to a normal forum. Rules as in ‘no ship wars’ or ‘no character bashing’ or ‘no personal attacks’. On tumblr that doesn’t exist, and it’s everyone’s right here to write those things, even if I sometimes question why people have to, in whatever way they choose. On a discord server, it’s easier to structure it around what kind of community you want.
Now, I’m not suggesting this as a replacement for the tumblr tag. You can’t make gifsets on Discord, or write fics. But I wanted to create it as an alternative, where people can go and just have fun and discuss the show, or gush about their ships (both romantic and naval), live-chat the new episodes, etc, in a way that’s difficult to do on tumblr.
I’m also not trying to deny you of writing angry rants about the show when you’re upset and putting it in the tag (or ship wars for that matter). I think that has a place in fandom as well. But tumblr has no system for shutting that out when you yourself can’t deal with it. So do write all those things, I’m not telling you to stop. I do too sometimes. But if you want to avoid those things, maybe this is something for you. Or maybe you want to do both, but have separate places for it. Or maybe you just want to hang out in more places than one and have fun with other fans.
And please bring the interesting meta discussions with you, that’s something the Black Sails fandom has always excelled at, even though the majority of it is in tag form, and I’m expecting a lot of it in this server too, if people join it. Just don’t me mean, you know?

Have specific channels for specific ships
Find betas/offer your services as beta for a fanfiction
Just fool around a lot in chat and have fun
My idea is that we’ll build it together, I’ve just created a very basic foundation. There will be rules in place, yes. You’ll have to be polite (unless something incredibly awful was going on). But if you have any issues with the version of the rules I’ve made, I’d be glad to have a discussion about changing them (piracy is a democracy after all. Ish). And if you’re interested in becoming a mod for the server (if it will even get that many people), be in touch! I’d love some help.

Yesterday, following another decline in the night and an emergency x-ray, Thomas was admitted to the emergency veterinary surgical clinic, where an ultrasound confirmed that a foreign mass was completely blocking his lower intestine, rendering him unable to defecate or absorb nutrients from any food he managed to consume. When he did drink, the liquid couldn’t get through his digestive system to be processed into urine, and was backing up and causing him extreme discomfort, which is why he’d stopped drinking. He was severely dehydrated, and had lost a total of nine pounds.
All of this was considered BEST CASE SCENARIO in terms of how quickly we caught it and started reacting, by the way. When a cat–even a very healthy, vigorous cat–begins to crash, they can crash extremely fast, and very conclusively.
The doctor took us into a room, and said, with that face that means “this is where I see a lot of good pets die,” that the surgery would be very expensive, with no guarantees. I said fine. She said, “no, I have to tell you this, you can’t just agree,” and informed me that the estimate for the surgery and aftercare would be in the neighborhood of $8,000. And that’s after the $1,500 or so we’d already spent on x-rays and fluids and medication and anything the vets told us to try because please don’t let my baby die. So yeah, there were some sharp breaths.
And I handed her my credit card and told her to save my cat. Because that is what had to be done.
Thomas went into surgery last night, and came out about forty-five minutes later. There was no necrosis; they were able to remove the obstruction (an impacted hairball) and sew him back up without complications. He isn’t out of the woods yet, but given that yesterday morning, the vet was telling me that it might be time to start managing my expectations regarding his survival, I will take it.
I am so grateful right now for everyone who bought my books in 2016, or supported my Patreon, or in any way made it possible for me to save my cat. I thought my mother–who raised three daughters on welfare, who made some veterinary care choices behind closed doors that I will never, ever ask her about–was going to cry, because for her, “$8,000″ is the moment where she would have had to say “that is groceries for a year, I am so sorry, I can’t.” And thanks to everyone out there, I could. I could save him. Or at least I could try.
It will be a little while before we know anything. I have hope again. (I also have a PayPal, because holy shit, $8,000 is a lot of money: if you’d like to throw a few bucks my way, it’s at delirium@xocolatl.com. If you can’t, that’s fine too. Look at my boy. He has a chance again. That’s better than money.)
My poor, sweet, good boy. I am praying, so hard, that he comes home.
