oh my god. I – could see that, oh so easily.  All they’d really have to do is convince Gates that it’s not a suicide mission to go after him once they find out where he’s being held, and for that, they’d need Billy’s help, which Silver would know but Miranda wouldn’t unless he tells her. Silver and Miranda together is a truly terrifying thought. No one would be able to refuse them, because what one didn’t think of the other would, much like him and Flint. And then you re-add Flint back into the mix after he escapes/is rescued and oh gods. The British never stood a chance (provided of course that he can see his way to working with Silver, which shouldn’t be that hard because the man will have just helped save his life). *Cackles alarmingly*

WAIT BUT IT GETS BETTER!

while Team Miranda is plotting, Flint is carried off to England, instead of Eleanor in s2 (bc she kinda took his place in canon!) Team Miranda is too late!

cut to the cell with Flint, enter Admiral Hennessey like TIMES HAVE CHANGED COME BACK SON I WILL FORGIVE EVERYTHING have a pardon/privateering commission (acts like he doesn’t know who offed Alfred).

Flint: fuck you, the Navy was never my home thx bye *escapes*

THEN he finds Thomas (idk amnesiac in the countryside bc I can’t handle laudanum addict Thomas aus) and happy reunion tears OH SHIT MIRANDA

they come to Boston first, Miranda is not there AWW HELL

back to Nassau, they arrive in panic. Meanwhile, Miranda…. has united everyone under FUCK YOU ENGLAND banners, using Flint as a symbol of how England can creep in and fuck you up. Eleanor wants to throw her off the cliff but like, works together. idk about Granny and Dufresne, they also plot. The gold has been delivered into the fort ofc. so like Miranda & Silver (who are probably lovers by then) have achieved in a couple of months what Flint has failed to do for a DECADE HELLO

Flint: … shit I knew I should have been the stay at home one. MIRANDA HAVE A THOMAS

Or, if one wanted to go for Hennessy getting his head out of his ass entirely, one could go for him trying to offer Flint a pardon/commission, being rejected, and coming out of the cell, only to nod at someone sadly, hopes somewhat dashed, as if to say, “you were right, he’s not willing to listen to me, let’s try it your way.” Cut back to Flint, who is sitting in the cell being broody, then the door opening to reveal the person Hennessy nodded at – Thomas, who has been pulled out of Bedlam by Hennessy (too little too late but I’d like to think he’s had ten years to really, sincerely regret what he’s done. Heck, maybe James’ capture was enough impetus for him to look into Thomas just to find out what happened to the man he condemned to Bedlam and discover that he’s actually still alive). Hennessy’s letting them go, since that’s all he can do for James at this point. They proceed to return to Nassau for the above mentioned reunion with Miranda.

As for Dufresne and Granny – you know, I’m honestly not sure how Granny would react if Gates were still alive and Flint were gone. For all I know he would be content if someone just handed him his wretched chair back and gave him a vote in whatever war council Miranda and Silver would have pulled together by then. Dufresne would still be a part of the Walrus crew, too, since there would have been no mutiny against Flint that Dufresne would have been a part of as of the Andromache fight. Then there’s the question of what Vane would do if literally everything suddenly swung his way, with absolutely no one seriously proposing reconciliation with England.

“your prompt about Flint falling off the Andromache makes me imagine…”

:

it’d be great bc Miranda would get directly involved with the crew muuuch earlier. and the gold won’t go anywhere lol bc we know all spaniards die out on that beach and it doesn’t matter WHO brings it into nassau in the end. it’d be such a poignant scene tho, hennessey vs james

Exactly! And there’s the question of just whose idea it was to put Thomas in Bedlam – Alfred’s, or Hennessy’s, because I could totally see that being Hennessy’s vengeance against Alfred – a kind of, “you make me repudiate my son, I’ll make you do the same to yours,” kind of measure, since I could see him being really angry at Thomas for having dragged James down with him. It’s also another way to force James to run rather than staying to fight. If Thomas had still been free, he might not have left. He might have done something profoundly stupid and stayed in England, albeit maybe not in London, but with Thomas locked up, he almost had to leave if he didn’t want to get Thomas or Miranda killed outright. If that was the case…. oh gods, I do not want to imagine that. Ow. Thanks, brain.

And pirate Miranda. I could totally see her coming to rescue James with his crew firmly under her control the way they never were under his. Miranda becoming the leader of the rebellion against England, all because Flint fell off a ship and she found out what Hennessy did to her husband. It could be glorious, and I in no way have time to write it right now.

your prompt about Flint falling off the Andromache makes me imagine Gates and Miranda working together to save him but also like, Miranda shagging that Navy dude to get Flint out? bc stubborn Flint would rather die than accept pardons or tell the Navy anything useful. he has an escape plan ready ofc but Miranda does her thing (she even manages to convince the Navy that the legend is overrated and Flitn isn’t that scary!) Flint gets MAD!

Oh Gods, yes – he would be so angry. And I kind of want to see what Billy does when he realizes that he’s angry at Flint, sure, but he didn’t want him dead. Does he help? Does he use his knowledge of Naval practice to help Miranda and Gates, albeit somewhat reluctantly because whatever else he might be, Flint is part of Billy’s crew and arguably the man who saved him from slavery?  If Admiral Hennessy is involved, does he reluctantly condemn him, or does he turn a blind eye to help him escape (because I have complicated headcanon about Hennessy. So much complicated headcanon. Specifically, I don’t think he actually much cared about him being gay. I think he loved him like a son and did what he could to force him to leave London and get away from Alfred Hamilton, and said what he had to toward that end. Not that I think that excuses it, but I don’t think he’s as black and white as he looks at first glance, either.)

ooh yes! so much good stuff!

Billy knows Miranda as this witch woman, yeah? plus he’s just seen her letter re pardons! and now he and Gates have to deliver the news that he has drowned!

she goes NO, and somehow, mb through Guthrie, they find out Flint is being kept captive (bc the Navy asshole want the nonexistent pirate treasure or smth!)

I confess I don’t have a solid grasp on Billy. I like his emerging ruthless streak that seems to be focused solely on Flint and how he does see Flint as a bad guy plus his epic ironic background but I’m not sure how to write him.

BUT anyway Miranda would totally get Billy to help bc she is charming and he would respond to her ladylike backbone.

yeah I agree re
Admiral Hennessy not being like Alfred, as in 100 % asshole. He just chose his own career over his “son”, and I personally find it super terrible but it doesn’t mean he didn’t care. I think the worst thing that he did was leading James into that office WITHOUT warning him Alfred was there. like duuuuude, why couldn’t you have said a word? Hennessey acted like a coward howerver you look at it.

I like to think he regrets it though, so yes, he would try to let Jamesgo (but not condone or encourage piracy).

I think the Navy dude we see in s1 seems like someone who would keep Flint captive without any higher orders (bc from what I’ve read in research, everyone did what they want in the West Indies to get rich bc London too far away and the Admiral was on and off present). so Hennessey would accidentally learn of it while beign there on diff business (the base was then in Jamaica and super underdeveloped) and reluctantly gets involved.

YESSSSS! I could definitely see Miranda getting the news and basically shaming Billy and Gates into looking for Flint and doing the same to Guthrie, because damn it, James is a strong swimmer, he would not have drowned with another ship that close behind. Maybe he found a way to climb aboard the Andromache and got captured from there? Maybe he just plain got picked up by the Scarborough, but either way, she would know better and be looking for him.

I have also never written Billy, so I have absolutely no grasp on him other than to know that he’s basically so Gryffindor it’s painful. He’s got morals, and rules, and he’s 100% about his crew as his family. That’s why he’s so pissed off at Dufresne’s shit, because it’s a betrayal of the entire crew, not just Flint. He’s basically crew mom and I think that’s why he would eventually realize that the crew needs Flint, much as he doesn’t like to admit it. All it would take would be one good, rolicking argument that led to unnecessary violence for him to realize that they can’t actually do without James. Now add on the guilt that you know Billy would be feeling that he was right there when he fell and didn’t save him (because I think Billy would be the sort to do that to himself), and he’d be ready to help.

I’ll be 27 this year and I’m nowhere near moving away from my Mom, those societal pressures are completely ridiculous! everyone does what they have to do to get by. just do your thing and ignore ignorant assholes 🙂 or if they’re so offended, they should fund ppl’s flats lmao

Thanks, Shiro!  nice to know I’m not the only one. I’m kind of tempted to ask if they’d prefer to see me living in a cardboard box if they’re so offended by tweenagers doing the smart economical thing 🙂 It must be nice coming from the kind of background where they can expect their children to move out instead of getting stuck having their kids supporting them, although I wouldn’t know

ah it’s just that the book series was everything to me as a teen! I never find any fans so I got super excited 😀 I liked the first game but not how they didn’t feature Iennifer (it felt weird to me) and still haven’t got around to playing the sequels

I love the series, particularly the third game! It’s heavily based on the books, which I’m now getting around to reading since I found the games first. Yennefer’s a big part of the third game, along with Ciri. The second has appearances from Zoltan and Yarpen Zigrin and both sequel games have quite a lot to do with the Lodge of Sorceresses.  You’d love them!
