idk why but for some reason i always think it means “edward”
don’t ask for reasons, he just looks like the kind of person his parents would name “edward”. and “james edward mcgraw” rolls of the tongue nicely.
it sounds like the kind of name working-class parents would give to their only son in the hopes that if his poor upbringing and/or childhood abandonment (going by the fact he was raised by his grandfather in spite of knowing who his father was, no mother figure seems to exist and he considers his superior officer his primary father figure) don’t save him from becoming a raging queer revolutionary, the name alone somehow will.
