In the US, you don’t have to kill to be a murderer

ruckawriter:

Lakeith Smith was 15 years old when he went along with four older friends on a burglary spree. A neighbour called police when the group went into a home in Millbrook, Alabama, and the responding officers surprised the teenagers as they were coming through the front door.

The group turned and fled out the back door, and a shootout ensued. When it was all over, 16-year-old A’Donte Washington was dead with a bullet wound to his neck.

It’s never been in dispute that a Millbrook police officer shot and killed Washington – officer-worn body cameras captured the fatal confrontation. A grand jury declined to charge the officer, finding that the shooting was justified.

Instead, Smith was charged and found guilty of his friend’s murder. Last week, a judge sentenced him to 65 years in prison. Under Alabama’s accomplice liability law, Smith is considered just as culpable in Washington’s death as if he had pulled the trigger himself.

Here’s a link to the article in case anyone wants to read it. It’s just as much of a shitshow as you think it it. (They changed the title to try to make it sound better than what it really is.)

And here’s the feedback page for the website!

This is the contact information for the University of Chicago Law School. The author of this FUCKING DISGUSTING PIECE OF SHIT proposal works for them. I do believe it’s time the University heard what we think of their faculty member’s outright advocacy of slavery/indentured servitude.

these are the type of comments being left on videos covering the earthquakes in mexico im just absolutely sick to my stomach. people are DEAD. buildings are COLLAPSING. if this shit were to happen in france or germany or some other white country there would already be hashtags and fundraisers all over the internet, but when something tragic like this happens to mexico everyone treats it as a joke. absolutely revolting

It’s ok, Mexicans we know how to endure and how to overcome this kind of situations cause we are always together, we are not greedy and we do not celebrate tragedy. Let them talk shit, Americans will get what they deserve sooner or later.

They all tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.

Fuck the gringos, seriously 😒

Deportation of African and Other Black Immigrants Is Quietly Increasing And No One Is Taking Note

typhlonectes:

As the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency conducts
its sweeps on immigrant communities, African people are among those who
are being detained and deported. While deportations were in no short
supply under the Obama administration, these deportations are expected
to soar under Trump, whose immigration ban
on six Muslim nations includes three African nations — Libya, Somalia
and Sudan. Trump also is clamping down on refugees and asylum seekers.

According to data from the Department of Homeland Security, in 2015, ICE
deported 1,293 African immigrants. Since the 2016 election, the ICE
raids on Black immigrant communities have intensified. For example, in
January, 86 men and women were deported to Mogadishu, the capital of
Somalia, after being detained and imprisoned, as Africanews.com
reported. In November, 108 immigrants were deported to Ghana and 20
people also were deported to Liberia, while 53 others were processed for
deportation. Earlier this month, ICE deported 130 people to Senegal,
six times the number recorded by the agency in its 2016 report…

Donald Trump is going to publish a weekly list of crimes committed by immigrants

iandsharman:

Donald Trump is a Nazi. He has assembled a cabinet of Nazis to run his fascist regime. He doesn’t call himself a Nazi, because Nazis never do. From the start “Nazi” was an insult. We all now face a choice in how to respond to this. We can either resist or collaborate. There are no other options. This is a decision we all face, but it is a particularly pertinent choice for the American people, and, crucially, the political establishment in America. Both Republican and Democrat politicians need to choose, are they going to resist or collaborate?

Make your choice now, before people start being rounded up and put in camps, before tanks roll out and bombs start falling. If enough people choose to resist now then the worst can still be avoided.

this is literally how the holocaust began. I’m saying this as a jewish person – one of the very first things that was important to hitler was painting jews as a scapegoat for most if not all of society’s ills. this is the same exact thing. first comes this – blatant propaganda meant to demonize immigrant populations. next will be the deportations. then will be the rounding up of people deemed “dangerous to society” and either mass imprisoning or murdering them. this should terrify everyone.

Literacy Not A Right For Detroit School Kids According To State

entitledrichpeople:

“Decades of State disinvestment in and deliberate indifference to Detroit schools have denied Plaintiff schoolchildren access to the most basic building block of education: literacy,” the suit claims at its start.

The lawsuit says the schools are in “slum-like conditions” and “functionally incapable of delivering access to literacy.” The case, filed in federal court, directly accuses Gov. Rick Snyder, the state school board and others of violating the civil rights of low-income students.

…..

In January, a review of Detroit school buildings uncovered mold, water damage and rodents – this after teacher sick-outs in protest of working conditions within the deteriorating school buildings.

A 2011 report showed 47 percent of Detroiters were functionally illiterate— meaning nearly half of they were not able to fill out basic forms for getting a job or having a command over basic understanding for such things as reading a prescription bottle.

The judge will conduct a hearing in February.

Some of you all have the nerve to think that undocumented immigrants do not want to follow the immigration process so I will have to educate you regarding specifically Latinx immigration.

1) the immigration process is so expensive in itself without the costs of lawyers.
2) Most of the so called “rapists and criminals” work in the field all day with the burning sun for $1.25 a day
3) My family had to pay at least $25,000 to immigrate my mom and my sister. (which caused my family to lose our house)
4) Now tell me, where the hell do you think people can come up with that amount of money to apply? Given that Latinos are the most underpaid minority.
5) YOU ARE FUCKING IGNORANT
6) Trust me, do not think we get a fucking rush of adrenaline living undocumented.People actually fear being separated from their families. Don’t you think if they had the means necessary to prevent that they would have done it by now?
7) you owe me for educating your racist ass.

Not to mention the legal channels only apply to certain people in certain situations. So not everyone has the option of immigrating legally. When you finally can immigrate, its expensive and not a guarantee. You can do everything right, pay thousands of dollars and still not get the visa or status you’re looking for.

Undocumented immigrants pay taxes, work, and all without the legal protections that citizens of the US take for granted.

And as a friendly reminder, MALDEF could use your donations right now if you can afford to donate.
