AU where Blackbeard captures a ship bound for Savannah, just after being betrayed by Charles Vane leaving Nassau. And who does he find there? Thomas Hamilton, AKA his new surrogate son. Years later, they return to Nassau. They attempt to defend the bay against Woodes Rogers, and fail. They leave with Charles Vane for Okrakoke Island. And then, a week later, Captain Flint arrives…

IM SCREAMING I LOVE THIS SO MUCH and here’s why:

SCRUFFY THOMAS

TATTOOED THOMAS though probably not a lot just enough for the crew to think he’s badass

QUARTERMASTER THOMAS!!!?!?? Like, Thomas is resented by the crew at first because it’s like the whole Charles Vane thing is happening all over again and the crew does a major eye roll BUT THEN Thomas does something heroic or just plain impressive like talk his way out of a situation and the crew just starts to listen to everything he has to say. It’s just like Miranda said, he’s like a magnet, and the crew can’t help but listen to him. Hence, QUARTERMASTER THOMAS

Blackbeard figuring out Thomas’ preferences just bc Thomas won’t be caught dead at a brothel which leads to their Midnight Feelings Talks. Blackbeard tries to send him a boy, but Thomas shuts down and they have to talk about their feelings more.

CHARLES AND THOMAS. Charles trying his best to hate Thomas meanwhile this blond puppy just keeps bringing him books or doesn’t comment on how Vane can’t stand the sight of blonde women.

BLACKBEARD TEACHING THOMAS HOW TO FIGHT!!!!! And Thomas not being very good at it until Teach gives him more manual labor on the ship to get him thicc af bc he does end up being thicc af

Thomas being RIDICULOUSLY GOOD at Being A Pirate. Teach was already pretty awesome with his fleet and his accounting but Thomas just SLAYS at building relationships with local merchants and you KNOW he comes up with his own little taxing system to make money off of the colonies for “protection” from pirates and Teach is just like “wtf remind me not to piss you off”

And all throughout this, Thomas mentions James’ name only once, to Blackbeard, after plenty of drink. Mentions he loved a man as tempestuous as the sea, but tamed so gently by love. He mentions the man was in the Royal Navy, that he fled with a woman to the colonies, and was most likely dead. Blackbeard knows. There’s no way he can’t know, after that. And he knows if he’s not careful, he’s going to lose another protege to that fucking ginger Flint.

He’s not careful.

He takes Vane, and Flint follows.

Blackbeard hears of sails over the horizon and knows Thomas is lost. When Flint makes his approach to land, Thomas is standing next to Blackbeard. Just before the long boat hits the sand, he husks out to Thomas, who has gone very still.

“Know that this man is not who he used to be. Know that I only sought to protect you from him. And know that he will not be tamed as easily as before.”

But as soon as Flint sees Thomas, there’s a moment of recognition that pounds like a drum in Blackbeard’s ears. The entire beach witnesses Captain James Flint melt away, and someone else entirely takes his place.

Thomas goes to him slowly, and James falls to his knees. Thomas goes to the sand with him, and they kiss in full view of both crews.

HAPPY ENDING

scruffy thomas: A+++ very good

quartermaster thomas: absolutely. he’s embarrassingly good at it. 

charles and thomas: 100% yes but also JACK AND THOMAS. im utterly convinced that thomas would find jack hilarious – given that jack’s motivation in life is his legacy, his name, and thomas is. pretty much the opposite of that. (sidenote: thomas almost certainly goes by the name Thomas McGraw). miranda said that thomas would play devil’s advocate with people from dawn to dusk, and leave everything they held sacred in tatters. imagine him doing that with jack. imagine the first time Blackbeard sees Thomas do it to someone 

Blackbeard teaching thomas to fight: just like he probably taught charles (and just like i headcanon charles taught anne) 

thomas is AMAZINGLY good at being a pirate. ABSURDLY so. 

but also. i can’t have blackbeard knowing that flint is thomas’s james, bc its just. too cruel. i can’t forgive any character who would keep something like that from james or thomas (sorry not sorry, silver) so he’s as Shook as everyone else.

but then!! thomas understanding what james’s plan is when he fights blackbeard – to get charles to intervene, to provoke him into siding with him. and in that moment, Thomas makes a big speech about how the real enemy is Rogers and the British empire. Blackbeard knows that while the fleet probably wouldn’t follow Charles, they ABSOLUTELY would follow Thomas, holy shit there would be no question. So Blackbeard has no choice but to go with them.

AND YES HAPPY ENDING

(also just imagine the meeting with Flint and Rogers in 3×07 only with Thomas there too. ‘Lord Thomas Hamilton’ ‘yes I wish I could say it’s a pleasure to meet you’ ‘……….what’)
