you know what i need??? more myth and superstition in scifi.

give me starship captains like the sailors of old, weathered and wary of the vast beast that is deep space, who religiously keep their own personal traditions and rituals to appease her and guide their ships safely through her vast depths.

give me wide-eyed ensigns eagerly drinking in tales of great creatures of the void, space whales and other more malevolent leviathans, dismissed as tall tales by more cynical cadets who only trust the sense of their own eyes.

give me whispered accounts of ghost vessels, lost long ago in great battles across the universe, populated by a literal skeleton crew.

give me a space bermuda triangle.

give me a universe as cold and unfathomable as the ocean, and no less mysterious and forboding.

AU where Abigail is sent to the shame farm by her father for safe keeping while he tries James. She meets Thomas and eventually figures out that he knows James. She tells him that James is alive and they break out together. Thomas shoots Rogers in the face and takes over as governor with his pirate husband. They live happily ever after and England never gets Nassau back

…..crack au where one of the most common pastimes at the plantation is writing smut fic about famous pirates. and james discovers thomas’ stash of flint/reader pwp

as i told you, this goes REALLY WELL w my idea where Thomas asks some artistically-minded fellow inmate to make a sketch of James for him. he might go a bit overboard describing how wonderful his husband looks, and the result is a series of pin-up sketches that everyone is p eager to get a copy of. (some attempt to make their own and… well, it’s a bit crude and they’re not all artists, so the quality varies.)

James oscillates between horrified noises and gleeful cackling when he finds out.

james-flint-hamilton:

yes, but how about a canon divergent AU in which Abigail Ashe is an incredbly attentive and observant child and she especially likes playing hiding and also isn’t shy of eavesdropping.

so, what if one day, shortly before Thomas was sent to Savannah, she listens in to her father and Thomas’s father talking about it…

and years later when she meets Flint, she’s a young woman, but she hasn’t lost any of her attentivness and so she realises while talking to James and Miranda how much James must have cared about Thomas, still does, and then she asks something like: you liked him very much, didn’t you? Is this why they brought him away overseas?

and obviously nobody knew that Abigail knew about it, and at first James and Miranda are utterly confused, like why would Thomas be brought overseas, he died at Bedlam?

but then Abigail tells them what she remembers and they seek out Peter Ashe and confront him about it and in the end he confesses everything and James will be reunited with Thomas way earlier and Miranda is still alive and the three of them are living happily ever after in a house by the beach

Imagine a Sense8 AU.

Flint.  Silver.  Jack. Charles. Max. Anne. Madi. Eleanor.

IMAGINE.

John Silver unable to
lie all of a sudden.  Unable to lie to these people! Drinking his face off for the first week solid to
try to keep his thoughts to himself (no beta blockers in the 1700s!) as Eleanor hovers and scolds from a safe distance (she thinks he’ll get over it faster if she just hangs out with him remotely, constantly, and he gets tired of throwing things at her and looking at her smug face when it goes right through her very quickly).  Max getting cornered in an alley by a drunk and
Anne, way out beyond Jamaica on a ship, coming to her and administering
the mother of all beatdowns.  Eleanor and Charles, LOL, oh dear.  Oh dear.  Flint rolling
up all “go left here, right here, now regroup and wait…wait…NOW FIRE!”
when Jack and his crew are under attack.  Vane consulting with Madi as she runs undercover missions into the plantations to break slaves loose…

I know the ages wouldn’t be perfect, but still.  Pretty close, besides Flint.  MAYBE HE WAS JUST A LATE BLOOMER.
