Trope that can die:

Grown men telling their small sons to “take care of things now” like their grown, capable mother isn’t standing right there, listening.

In addition to being misogynist, it’s emotional child abuse. Children already suffer with ideas of being more responsible for their families than they are. Many children blame themselves for divorces, parental arguments, deaths in the family, etc. Literally telling a child they’re responsible for the whole family is emotional abuse.

Can we add the thing where a girl grows up without a mother and she’s the one taking care of her dad? Like, grown up and picking up after him and getting his meals ready for him? Daughters without mothers are not replacement wives!

Hell, even when both parents are there, expecting your child to fulfil parental roles screws them up. And apparently, it’s uncomfortably more common with girls, because they’re expected to take after mum as soon as they can.

Writing while deliriously tired

While Writing: I’m so creative right now, it’s like all the normal constraints have been lifted. Wow I wrote 2,000 words in 30 minutes! This is going to be great.

Rereading the Next Day: I used the word ‘Beautiful’ 8 times in this sentence and instead of ‘reassuring’ I wrote ‘refrigerator.’ Also the tenses switched 3 times in one paragraph and I started writing about a character who isn’t even in this story.

i love writing oneshots because they’re less stressing. it’s done. nothing to add. whatever the fuck i wrote, deal with it. i am at peace. meanwhile, writing multi-chapters is suffering, because every time i update, i’m like “this is it. this is the chapter that will disappoint everyone.”

EXACTLY.
