Post your favorite five fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers (◠‿◠✿). Do multiple fandoms if you want!
So, it’s been a while since I’ve posted any of my fics. Black Sails is the first fandom that I’ve posted anything for in… literally years, pretty much since I was in college, in point of fact, so most of this is going to be Black Sails fic. That said:
1. They That Sow the Wind – I can’t tell you how immensely proud I am of myself that I actually got all the way through this. I’ve actually never done another long fic that was all the way written and edited and posted, so I can’t say enough just how pleased I am with this one. I like so many things about it, but mostly that I had the stick-to-it-iveness to actually finish it and not pull my hair out by the roots in the process. It has a little bit of everything for everyone – romance, action, politics, epistolary fiction (that’s letters when it’s at home), OCs, even a look-in from a couple of characters from another fandom, and some fun historical and nerdy facts in the chapter notes.
2. The Cure for Sorrow – This has certainly been everyone’s favorite. It’s fluffy, it’s fix-it, and I edited the crap out of it so many times. So. Many. Times. The finished product you see is the result of hours of me sitting there staring at the screen muttering things like, “why don’t you work? Why won’t you just do as I say?” It was also the first thing I posted in the fandom that wasn’t a one-shot, so I’m kind of proud of it in its own way, even if I’m still not entirely sold on the characterization for Flint.
3. Green Eyed Fools (Named James) – This was actually the very first thing I wrote for the Black Sails fandom. It’s just a short little thing – two ruined Naval officers from two separate fandoms meeting in a bar to commiserate, but I still go back to it when I need to remind myself how to write Flint, and I still like the ending.
4. Through Hardships Unnumbered – Look, I know this one is soul-ripping angst. I know that it’s – well, I won’t say it’s not anyone’s favorite, because I can’t possibly know that, but I know it hasn’t exactly gotten much response. Regardless, I’m fond of it. It took forever to get the balance of it right, and I’m happy with the way it turned out. It’s also probably going to be the turning point from “Thomas Hamilton needs a hug” to “Thomas Hamilton did not painstakingly paste himself back together to put up with Woodes Rogers’ shit.”
Can I say one of my favorites is something I haven’t posted and probably won’t for a long time? If so, then it’s the one that I started for the Hobbit fandom and never finished. It’s got some scenes I’m very proud of that are so super clear in my head, some OCs that I’m also proud of, and a plot that I genuinely don’t think anyone’s done yet. And it might possibly have a Silmarillion prequel. The point is – it’s going to be long if it’s ever finished. Since you’re probably hoping for a real entry to this list though –
5. Four For a Boy – This is blatantly a fix-it for the scene where Flint leaves Miranda a book and quietly sees himself out of her little patch of happiness, because it broke me to watch. It’s kid fic, but the focus is not on the kid – it’s on the way that the said kid causes things to become fixed for the FlintHamiltons OT3. I also got the absolute pleasure of allowing Flint to literally beat Alfred Hamilton into a bloody pulp, so that was fun.
That’s it for this list! Tagging @shirogiku, @iwtv2007, @thewalruscaptain, @reluming, @char7, and anyone else who wants to do it!
