The Cure for Sorrow 344 kudos

To the Upper Air 320 kudos

The Cup of Their Deserving 249 kudos

As A Stranger Give It Welcome 215 kudos

A Bridge of Silver Wings 157 kudos

What are your five least popular works? (starting with the least kudos)

Silver and Gold Decorations (shall be hung on James in lieu of a tree) 36 kudos

Battle Raven 40 kudos

Cloud Bursts 41 kudos

Good Fortune Attend 47 kudos

The Anger of a Gentle Man 70 kudos

Are you surprised? Why?

Sort of? Mainly at the fact that Bridge of Silver Wings is on the most kudos list since it was… not exactly popular when I posted it. Good to see it’s become less of a wallflower. I’m a little surprised that the shameless fluff fics don’t get more kudos – that’s what Good Fortune Attend and Silver and Gold Decorations both are, you’d think we’d all be a little more fond of happy things.

I tag whoever wants to do this, since I’m not sure who’s done it and who hasn’t.

Copy and paste the last sentence you wrote and then tag as many people as there are words in that line.

“I don’t want to do this,” James admits. The words feel odd in his mouth. He has not said them in so long – has not dared. It has been close to a decade since he has flinched from a decision in this way – a decade of hard, cold, horrible choices that he has made over and over again, and each time he has closed his eyes, and breathed deep, and tried to recall Thomas’ voice.

I tag @bean-about-townn, @comtessedebussy, @iwt-v, and anyone else that wants!

Meme

I was tagged by @iwt-v, @drivingsideways33, @thefckingwarship, and @buildarocketboys. You can tell you’ve gone too long without updating when…! Thanks, all!

Rules: Copy paste the last sentence (or something) you wrote, then tag as many people as there are words.

“You sent me there,” he says, his tone suddenly icy. “To that – pit of misery. You suggested it?”

“I suggested Newgate,” Hennessey admits. “His Lordship, the Earl of Ashbourne, would hear none of it. I am – truly sorry, for what it is worth. Had I suspected -”

(shhhh, I’m not procrastinating on projects and working on something completely new and different or anything. Hush.)

Anyway – that’s too many words and I don’t know that many writers. tagging anyone who hasn’t done it yet and has a WIP to share a piece of since I’m not sure who’s done it lately and who hasn’t. Heck – if you’ve done it already and written more, do it again and tag me! This was good motivation to get some writing done.

1. Always post the rules
2. Answer the questions given by the person who tagged you
3. Write 11 questions of your own
4. Tag 11 people (or however many you want)

1. What was your first ship? Hmm. I’m trying to remember and I think the first thing that qualifies is Bagginshield. Prior to that I think most characters I came across I really didn’t give a crap about romantic relationships which… probably should have been indication #1 that I am ace af, now that I think back on it.

2. Do you have any pets? I have two cats, one calico and one tabby and white.

3. What’s your birthstone? Sapphire, which is good because I like blue

4. Do you believe in karma or do you think life is just random? I do believe in karma, I just tend to believe that it doesn’t always catch up with people quickly.

5. Favorite band? oooh, this one is actually difficult because I a. love music a lot and b. tend to like single artists rather than big bands. I guess for now I’ll go with Gaelic Storm – their lyrics are really poetic every so often.

6. What world leader, past or present, would you like to meet and why? On balance – none of them. The decent ones I wouldn’t want to talk to because they’re way out of my league intelligence and eloquence-wise and the rest I obviously don’t want to meet because, well, they’re awful.

7. How much of your on-line interests do you share with real life friends or family? Eh, they pretty much know what I’m into, although I don’t gush all over them or anything.

8. What’s your idea of the perfect day? One where I get up, buy breakfast at a small diner or cafe and drink coffee until I’m ready to move on, and then spend the rest of the day in a nice, quiet library with a good research project or a good book to read and some music to listen to, only leaving it to eat lunch, and then going home to be with my cats and get a good, long night’s sleep.

9. What’s the first fandom you joined? Harry Potter, sooooo many years ago.

10. Who’s your favorite author? Seanan McGuire

11. Recommend me a book by them? If you haven’t read any of her books, I’d recommend starting with Rosemary and Rue, the first in her October Daye series. It’s urban fantasy heavily based in faerie tales and folklore.

I’ve done the thing where I ask questions and tag people, so I’ll just leave that bit alone.

Questions

  1. When did something start out badly for you but in the end, it was great? Hmm. Probably 4th of July holiday weekend – we were heading to the park we were going to have a picnic in when we got hit by a really large thunderstorm. Fortunately, though, that meant that everyone that was already at the park cleared out and by the time we got there, the rain had stopped and we were able to find park benches to put our stuff on and have a good time.
  2. What weird food combinations do you really enjoy? Apparently liking pineapple pizza is weird? ooh, I know one. Ranch dorito chips and cocktail sauce. Don’t judge me, it was my nephew’s idea. Oh, and dill pickles with sugar on them.
  3. If your job gave you a surprise three day paid break to rest and recuperate, what would you do with those three days? Rest and recuperate. Honestly, I spend most of my work days tired as hell bc I don’t get enough sleep (work schedule does not match sleep schedule at all) so I spend breaks catching up on sleep, playing video games, and going out to eat when I can.
  4. What movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of? That would have to be the Hobbit movies with particular emphasis on the second one.
  5. What’s wrong but sounds right? Plenty of things, in my experience.
  6. In
the past people were buried with the items they would need in the
afterlife, what would you want buried with you so you could use it in
    the afterlife?
Paper, pen, coffee, a coffee mug, and my blanket off my bed bc it’s super soft and warm. Although ideally those things would go on my funeral pyre since I feel pretty strongly about not being buried.
  7. What food have you never eaten but would really like to try? Honestly, I’ll try most things once, with some notable exceptions.
  8. What was the last photo you took? A picture of a book I want to remember to buy.
  9. Which celebrity do you think is the most down to earth? Honestly? Toby Stephens seems pretty grounded.
  10. What would be the worst thing to hear as you are going under anesthesia before heart surgery? The thing you do not want to hear is your doctor saying “we’ll do our best.” That’s not a good phrase.
  11. What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it? Performative Christianity from people whom I know to be racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic, or otherwise bigoted and therefore far from good Christians.

My Questions:

1. What are your pets’ names if you have them? (If you have pets, say hi to them for me. If no pets, say hi to your friends’ pets for me and tell me your favorite book)

2. What upcoming movie or game are you looking forward to?

3. Favorite ice cream flavor?

4. Favorite household meme/in-joke?

5. Song you could hear over and over and never tire of?

6. Character that invariably makes you cry?

7. Are you a heavy sleeper or a light sleeper?

8. Favorite era in history?

9. Phrase you probably use too often?

10. Weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

11. Tell me one thing on your bucket list.

Tagging @bean-about-townn, @iwtv2007, @the-night-painter, @sidewaystime, @flintstille, and @comtessedebussy and anyone else that wants to do it

You headcanons: You’re a cat person. You like doing outdoor things. You read a lot, and you’re basically Flint, with your words and literature references. Except, instead to killing us with your tactical skills, you kill us with your carefully thought out plots and masterfully written fics.

Aww, thank you! Anon, whoever you are, you know me scarily well! Although up until recently I’d always classed myself as more of a Thomas than a Flint, but then again I do in fact adore the Odyssey and have probably way too many freckles and zero patience for bullshit so…. hmm. that would seem to contradict my theory and give weight to yours. Um… guilty as charged?

“Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you’ve written, then pass on to at least five other writers.

I was tagged by @iwtv2007 – thanks, darling! I think I’ve maybe done this before but like Laura, my favorites have probably changed a bit since my fic list has expanded.

1. To the Upper Air – This fic has arguably given me more trouble than any other fic I’ve written but it’s my favorite. I was all kinds of nervous posting it because I didn’t think it was going to take off given that it’s a time travel fix-it, and I’m so pleased that I was wrong. This is still a work in progress, but I have put so much research and effort and honestly love into this thing and it’s meant to be hopeful and redemptive. Also I’ve talked with a ton of people in the fandom since I started writing it so it’s been great for that. I swear, I’m working on finishing it! Chapter 18 just needs to be perfect because it’s the penultimate one (I think).

2. They That Sow the Wind – If you haven’t read this one already, it’s the one that I’m arguably proudest of simply because it was my very first finished long fic. It’s a fun AU that jumps off pre-canon in 1705 and proceeds to toss canon out the window. I like the way it’s put together and I’m particularly proud of the OCs in this, actually.

3. As a Stranger Give it Welcome – I know that I’ve expressed some opinions about Silver on here post-finale but this fic I’m still so damn proud of because it’s actually got a theme that holds it together and honestly, it takes all the things that bother me about Flint and Silver being together and fixes them. Also this was my first and probably only smut, so there’s that.

4. Four for a Boy – Honestly, I used to be kind of ambivalent about this one. I felt like the characterizations weren’t quite on point, but I’m very pleased that my version of Thomas’ and James’ reunion was damn near right on point at least as far as Thomas’ reaction goes, and I really like that it gives Miranda back some of the agency she spent so long without and a role in seeing Thomas home safe with her and James.

5. The Cup of Their Deserving – I won’t lie – I really like this one. It’s been so damn cathartic after the finale and I could no more have refrained from writing it than I could have from breathing, because to be honest the finale knocked me on my ass and left me reeling. I wasn’t sleeping well, I spent about two weeks just having static in my head, and then I started writing this and it… fixed things. Kind of a lot. I’ve been told by multiple commenters that it’s done something of the kind for them, too, so I’m very glad I started writing it.
