the thing about Silver is that he says he is a nobody from nowhere etc, the creators say he is a blank slate, almost like your usual playable video game character, but the way we’re introduced to him in S1 – now that isn’t at all a Default 18th Century Dude With No Knowledge of Sailing. Whoever he is, he combines cold-blooded murder and clumsy, but enthusiastic scheming with that naive, what-is-happening look and those earnest, almost needy grins – no, that doesn’t just come from anywhere. you want to keep trying to solve the puzzle, and it’s frustrating that the creators don’t want to do it; even Flint wants to hear SOME approximation of the truth that would make sense.
