Miranda & James
This started with a photo I found of T’s face for my last sketch, which just had that lovely dip in his cheekbones in shade. From there I used a few different caps, Miranda’s face is from Nassau, I added costume from her giving him Don Quixote. Hands and arms are my composition, a bit wooly on the shirts/lace cuffs again. It was a toss up between other figure being Thomas, Miranda and Admiral Henessey. I hadn’t drawn her in a while, so she won. This is 6 hrs over 3 days. Hb/h mechanical pencil, on vellum Bristol.

OMG this got STUPIDLY long – Modern AU The rest below the cut

Three months ago James got a new neighbor. James really only knows him peripherally, despite his libido telling him he’d like to know him intimately. On the day he moved in Thomas had introduced himself with a strong handshake, Thomas Hamilton, pediatric oncologist, he’d smiled at James, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He had assured James that he wouldn’t have to worry about Thomas being loud. He spent a lot of time at work and was long past throwing wild parties.

They pass each other roughly three times a week and the occasional, Saturday, when Thomas is just back from his daily run. This evening as James is walking up the street from the butcher, he sees Thomas sitting on the shared steps of their brick rowhouse with a cigarette in one hand and glass in the other.

As James gets closer he notices that Thomas is still in his scrubs from the hospital, and he’s swaying where he sits. James approaches and nods. When their eyes meet, Thomas’s are red rimmed and bleary. James sets his bag just inside his door and against his better judgment takes a spot next to Thomas on the stoop.

“The capture was our work,” Cooper said. “Any profits made belong to all of us. I’ve kept quiet up til now because – well, I’m feared of him, and there’s the truth, but he’s gone too far. He’s starting to get the men grumbling. I don’t want them getting killed on account of Martel, and I don’t appreciate his little sideline. It’s not right, what they’re doing – I’ve said so from the beginning.”

Thomas nodded to Cooper.

“Thank you.” He turned back to Teach. “I trust,” he said quietly, “that I don’t need to tell you what might happen if the men on this island start to resent you?”

“And what is your concern if they do?” Teach was watching them closely now. Thomas raised one eyebrow and inclined his head in an approximation of a shrug.

“Aside from being naturally averse to violence, I have none,” he answered. “I intend to have a chat with Captain Martel. As a courtesy, given the information I’ve just handed you, I would ask you not to interfere when I go to meet him.”

“You dress as one of us but you speak like an educated man, and you say you have business with Martel. Would your business happen to concern the young naval officer being kept like a chained tiger by Martel and his crew?”

Thomas said nothing, and Teach sat back.

“You’re his contact in London.”
