I don’t think Flint would have stayed there with Thomas. He would have bust them out, or taken over the camp and freed everyone. I don’t think Silver was condemning him to a prison/slave camp because he knew Flint wouldn’t stay. It was just a way to get him in to reunite with Thomas.
Honestly, I don’t think they’d stay there either. I cannot picture it, and I would sincerely hope that Silver would not do that to Flint. I’d hope that it was intended to bring him to Thomas with the understanding that he would definitely be out within a day or two with Thomas in tow, and there are a couple of things that support that interpretation of events. I’m fine with that interpretation – it’s preferable to the alternatives, and I honestly prefer it to the idea that Silver would go so far as to do that on top of hurting Madi the way he did. I just have an issue with people trying to pretend that staying in that place would in any way be ok as an ending for either of them, because, as noted in the post, slavery, no matter how gentle, is still slavery and being kept in a place and worked day in and day out certainly fits that definition. It’s not right, it’s not ok, and it doesn’t matter how anyone dresses it up.
