Wow, do I know all about that unfortunately. My workplace is swarming with homophobes bleh

*hugs* yeah – I’ve got at least one coworker that says something offensive every time she talks about any kind of current events and it’s really, really hard to just shut up because dear gods she’s so incredibly wrong about so many things and she refuses to listen to anything that’s not her own opinion.

*weeps* ugh! I am DYING to know how you interpret Silver in this…I know how you feel about him and I sensed you would write Thomas being pissed..!!! But what about James??? Meg, you are a torturer. 🙂

Yeah, I’m not going to lie, this fic is basically every character that’s ever cared about James Flint McGraw doing their damnedest to make sure he gets to be happy and free and telling John Silver what they think of him in the process. I’ve resurrected Vane a. because I can and b. because Madi deserves someone who would never undercut her the way Silver did. Oh, and Hennessey’s coming along for the ride, again, because I can, and because seeing him interact with Silver as a younger version of himself – similar betrayal (although still somewhat different in that at least Hennessey’s betrayal didn’t see James enslaved), same regret – is going to be fascinating. As to James and Madi… I think their feelings on Silver are complicated because on the one hand they’re both beyond angry with him and on the other hand they trusted and loved him once so they don’t necessarily want him dead, they just don’t want to be around him. Possibly ever again in Madi’s case.

Even if they didn’t know immediately several actors were to quick to point it out: THEY knew we’d not brush that aside so easily, that it’d have us all reacting emotionally. (Plus Toby Stephens said no spoilers when asked about it and if Thomas was dead like we’ve been told why would he do that to us? Knowing that we’d immediately take that as a maybe, if not a yes).

And it would come back around so nice narratively. Flint started the war because Thomas was taken from him, and I have to believe that his non-answer to Silver is telling, because yes, I think he would give it up if he found out Thomas was alive and needed him, even if Thomas wouldn’t necessarily want him to.

I feel like Thomas is the only reason Flint would ever walk away. I don’t care if he lost the support of every single pirate and Maroon, they all abandoned him and stole his ships, he wouldn’t stop fighting. If it was just him alone with a dull pocketknife trying to saw Rogers’ head off, he’d force them to kill him before he’d walk away normally. Unless Thomas. Thomas he would go after.

I’m so glad at least some of us (most of us now?) have no problem whatsoever with Thomas being alive, because I can remember not terribly long ago (into season 3) a lot of people were agreeing with the idea that James finding Thomas alive would be too great a shock to him and would break him and that it would be too hard for them to pick up the pieces, etc.

I have to say it was hard to imagine it because James was still totally Flint BUT

Now I have to disagree with most of that because James is no longer full Captain Flint and he’s McFlint like Char said and I’m still so overwhelmed and I love all of you. <333

Thomas being alive is my jam and always has been. LOL! I don’t care what anyone else says, if that happens I will give the finale a 12/10 even if every other character dies in a volcano eruption in the middle of Nassau square. I don’t care if Santa Claus pulls up in his sleigh and Thomas hops out, it’s perfect to me. I’ve always felt that Thomas being alive would help him, not destroy him. And even more so now that he’s find this balance between the Flint and McGraw in him (yay, McFlint!).

Lol! It’s been both our jams, and why do you do this to me when I’m drinking? Thomas isn’t jolly enough around the waist to be Santa, but I have no problem with James jingling his bells on a rooftop. xDDD

omg Laura it’s a good thing I wasn’t drinking anything when I read that last!

Oh so nice! I looove Miranda in this. And poor, confused Silver…I like how he feels this aggravation towards Thomas but you know a lot of it is an insane amount of curiosity.

Thanks! Yeah – poor confused Silver who’s positively burning up with curiosity and has been for… *checks watch/calendar/whatever* twenty years by his reckoning. It’s made him a bit grumpy, the poor thing, not to mention he’s been nursing his guilt for quite a bit of that time.

And I’m pleased to report that Miranda will have a lot more to say next chapter. I’m almost there with it, if Silver and Thomas would just like to stop playing “we’d like to like each other but we’re both feeling grouchy” and start actually talking to one another.

Where do you publish your work?

Ao3. I’ve had one scholarly article published in an extremely minor journal but it’s hardly worth mentioning, and a couple of very old fanfics sitting out on fanfic.net under another name.

What medium/application/etc. do you write in or with?

Google Docs and pen and paper. I got tired of computer malfunctions losing me hours or days or weeks worth of work.

Do you collaborate with others

I’m actually extremely nervous about collaborating, simply because it comes with deadlines I’m not ever sure I can meet. There are a couple people I could think of that I would be willing to collaborate with, but they’re all kind of prolific and I’m very slow by comparison.

How much editing do you do before you publish?

So much editing. All the editing. If you see one of my fics, you can bet I’ve been over it ten or eleven or twelve times before it ever sees the light of Ao3.

Do you listen to music when you write?

Not very often. I can listen to the Black Sails soundtrack, or classical music (usually Bach or Vivaldi), but nothing with words.

How do you decide what to write about?

I’m mostly a what-if and a fix-it writer – both at the same time if I can manage it!

When do you write?

Any old time I have time. As odd as this is going to sound, I get a lot of writing done at work, especially over the summer.

How often do you write?

Pretty much every day with occasional day or two long breaks to refresh and recharge.

Do you take requests? Why/why not?

I actually started writing for Black Sails on a kind of request, so yes! I prefer the open prompt format, though, so that I can choose whether or not to take a given prompt instead of taking direct requests.

Is there any genre or type of story you want to write but are hesitant to?

I really, really hesitate over writing smut. One of these days I’m going to screw up my courage (ha! ok that was terrible don’t bother to laugh) and write some, but I really haven’t done it yet.

Any inspirational quotes, videos, tricks, articles, etc. that help you stay motivated?

This is going to sound odd, but I basically keep telling myself that if Fifty Shades of Grey could get published, then I’m fine because whatever I write is bound to be better than that.

Go to page 7 of your WIP, skip to the 7th line, and share 7 sentences.

You’re not going to believe this, but I honestly do not have 7 pages of any of my current projects completed. I know – it’s terrible but true, so here’s seven sentences from the first couple of pages of the one I’m currently doing. It’s the Flint wakes up to find himself eleven years in the past and still known as James McGraw fic I’ve been promising Shiro.

He was comfortable. He was also wearing a nightshirt, and lying in a room that he did not recognize (or did he? It was familiar and yet -)

The knock on the door interrupted his attempt to remember where the hell he was, and he sat up in the bed.

“Yes?” His voice sounded odd – less hoarse, somehow, as if he had not used it to shout orders at anyone in quite some time, and yet he did not remember any such welcome time away from the ship. Had he been drinking? If so, what, and for how long? He shook his head, trying to clear it.

“Lieutenant McGraw? Message for you, sir.”

Tagging @shirogiku, @reluming, @char7, @thewalruscaptain, and anybody else that wants to do it!
