Just a thought here but uh. We can agree that Flint is a definitively morally grey person fueled by rage and the desire for revenge without saying that he doesn’t genuinely care about ending England’s rule on Nassau or that he never strongly believed in the concept of the pardons before becoming utterly disillusioned by England as a force of potential good. Especially when he expressed that he fanatically wanted to pursue two idealistic, risky plans to carry out such a goal and that he was willing to exchange the treasure to end the war for Nassau. The misinterpretation of the character bothers me, but it genuinely bothers me more the idea that like. Being motivated by anger because of the injustices you have personally faced somehow is an “ impure” motive for revolutionary activity that makes it somehow not as good a cause? Is something that is prevalent with you people. Especially considering that a majority of the fan base is like consisting of non-straight women and some gay/bi men, some of whom are not white or able bodied, I expected you all to better grasp what powers revolutions or any sort of movement for social change and anyway that’s. Troubling.
also. did you all miss the speech he gives where he talks about how he wants to pursue the ability to change who tells the narrative to those who are feared instead of colonial england. 4×10, like. He is absolutely not an altruistic man and he is motivated by his own personal tragedies but that doesn’t necessarily cheapen the goal he is trying to pursue or mean that it is not worthwhile or that it is not something he truly believes in.

Could you eleborate on your tags in this post? I really like your metas! If it’s not too much trouble! /post/163702439009/do-you-think-flint-enjoys-violence
Hi anon! Well, I’m going to try and keep this short, but it’s about Flint. SO. 😀
This is absolutely one of the best metas I’ve read about Flint’s anger/rage/emotions and the way it does not invalidate what he’s doing.
Literally the only thing that actually makes me okay with the shame farm is that I do not for one second believe Flint and Thomas stay there.
Like, I don’t care how progressive it is or how well the people there are treated, it’s still a labor camp/prison, it’s still someplace where people outside societal norms are sent to prevent their presence in society, they’re still profiting off labor provided by people with no choice and no recourse and no actual crime. The philosophy there is not “they should never have been cast out” the philosophy is “we should treat the outcast with kindness but not let them back in.”
Which is not even getting into the entire bullshit deal the maroons got.
That ending is fucking haunting. No wonder John Silver can’t actually deal with it long term.
hey IGN you fuckers:
Thomas Hamilton is NOT A FUCKING CONSOLATION PRIZE what the fuck is wrong with you???????
Show: *ambiguously sends James McGraw Flint off to a labor camp where he might possibly be imprisoned for life with his love but under armed guard and not free*
Fandom, collectively: Fuck you, no way, we’ve met this guy. Not a chance, show. It’s cute you even thought maybe, though.
#spoiler#james flint#you’ve got to be kidding me#seriously?#not to mention silver would fucking never#I honestly don’t know what the show intended here#but I can give no weight to that interpretation via @corsaircourser
