Literally the only thing that actually makes me okay with the shame farm is that I do not for one second believe Flint and Thomas stay there.
Like, I don’t care how progressive it is or how well the people there are treated, it’s still a labor camp/prison, it’s still someplace where people outside societal norms are sent to prevent their presence in society, they’re still profiting off labor provided by people with no choice and no recourse and no actual crime. The philosophy there is not “they should never have been cast out” the philosophy is “we should treat the outcast with kindness but not let them back in.”
Which is not even getting into the entire bullshit deal the maroons got.
That ending is fucking haunting. No wonder John Silver can’t actually deal with it long term.
