#obviously i think that flint’s wrath is about what happens to thomas and miranda and himself #but i think a large part of it is this right here #that he (and miranda) were cast into the roles of villains in the tragedy of thomas hamilton #that they were blamed for his overwhelming grief and the rumors of his death #that alfred hamilton could take something that was about love and throwing off the yoke of shame #and make it into something profane #something ‘too loathsome’ to be dismissed #flint keeps coming back to this #that people are defined by the stories that are told about them #and the story that anyone remembers about james mcgraw and miranda hamilton and thomas hamilton #is that james and miranda had an affair that resulted in the madness and death of her husband #the story that people tell about flint #that he is a villain and a monster #that he can’t be trusted that he doesn’t care #that he is the end of the people who are close to him #‘this is your end’ his all-but-father tells him #james and miranda and thomas lose their lives to a story #a distortion of something that was good and all that is left behind is the monsters #and here is silver telling him that this doesn’t matter #two of the defining moments in his life #places where he’d reached a peace between the chorus of tragedies in his head #and they are both taken out of his hands in favor of a story someone else wants to tell (via @sidewaystime )
