James Flint || dragons in the darkness
Tag: bs spoilers
thomas hamilton’s face while being reunited with his truest love
a family can be a fashionable pirate captain with weird pointy sideburns and a lesbian and a lesbian and a lesbian
Why james and thomas are alive:
– as others have pointed out, a plantation without miranda is not James’s idea of heaven
– the scene at the start reveals that silver did indeed send someone to look for thomas. This scene would’ve been pointless if it wasn’t real. We already know for certain that silver was interested in these plantations, and in what james would give up if thomas was alive, so it makes sense that he would try to find out the truth
– if the first scene was real, i don’t know why the later one wouldn’t be
– even if this scene was just silver’s version of events, I believe he was past lying to madi at this point
– if silver did want to lie to her, he could’ve stuck with the original ‘retirement’ story that he told everyone else
– if he killed James, he could’ve blamed it on anyone else (Hands) to avoid judgement. Not many men were with them at the time, he could’ve easily formulated a story that made his death necessary
– if he was trying to appease madi, he failed when he revealed he had been planning this for a while – why would he reveal even more of his betrayal to her if it wasn’t true?
– jack was meant to kill flint. While he managed to make the alternative sound more appealing to Eleanor’s grandma, it would’ve been easier if he could truthfully say he was dead. Since silver seemed to at least partially understand Jack’s goal (of fixing nassau, and leaving silver out of it) I don’t see why he would’ve lied to him about killing flint
– silver said he would wait for james to understand the situation, so why would he kill him? James definitely would not have attacked him first
I think that’s it. Don’t argue or I’ll cry.
Also, how the fuck Flint’s afterlife plantation looks exactly like real life plantation?! He never saw that fucking place in his life and here he’s dead and it looks exactly like the real one? It’s ridiculous!
There’s that too, yeah. Guy that shows him through the door to the field looks exactly like the actual guy who runs the place as shown in the beginning scene which is not part of this maybe he is maybe he isn’t nonsense. Tom Morgan is standing in the background, and I don’t think Flint probably remembered all of Silver’s random henchmen. Point is – there’s too much that’s out of place for Flint to know for me to buy the symbolism as anything but him going from the dark returning to the light that is his previous self and Thomas. Yes, there’s symbolism going on, but I’m not taking the Greek tragedy meaning out of it. James Flint McGraw is alive, that’s my bottom line.
Edit: Also, why in the hell would James be imagining Thomas with a beard? I know it’s a small point, but Thomas was always clean-shaven when he knew him.
Also if he DID die, Miranda would be there too. He loved them both. He missed them both. He mourned them both. If he’s dead they’d both be there. His Eden wouldn’t ever exclude her. He’s alive and with Thomas.
Exactly – thank you! Also, I’m fairly certain the Elysian Fields don’t include guards with muskets. Or Israel Hands.
Black Sails, what else?
Reading the producer’s comments on the finale …
They reunited, they left the plantation, that’s what I have to say on the matter and I’m not hearing otherwise, and I’d like to note that if you were working in the hot sun all day, you’d damn well be wearing white too as it sheds heat more effectively.
Also, Peter Ashe, screw you, you treacherous, lying, two-faced, backstabbing bastard. I’m glad you are dead and you can burn in a hole in the ground for all eternity for doing that a) to Thomas and then b) to James and Miranda when you could have told them the truth. I plan to go back and rewatch your death again and again, to enjoy how you suffered.
waftingcurtains replied to your post “The way I’m seeing this is basically death of the author. The text is…”
Yeah I just don’t buy they were going to be trapped there. I fully believe James would’ve gotten them the fuck out of dodge soon.
Agreed. I have absolutely no concerns about James’ ability to get them out of there or Thomas’ ability to talk him into making sure everyone else gets out as well. I’m so beyond angry at Silver that they’d have to, because Jesus fucking Christ what a thing to present to the woman he loves – the woman who is a child of former slaves – who views it as her duty to free slaves – as somehow ok and what a horrifying thing to do to someone he claimed was a friend. It’s sick, it’s wrong, and I want his guts for garters for it, but I’m quite certain that no matter which way you slice it, James and Thomas will be fine.
