underrated black sails moment: billy trying to convince the walrus riggers to fix the footrope in 209, but they’re a bunch of dumb superstitious pirates and refuse to fix it till it’s….been fixed. and billy just stares at them with total defeat in his eyes and says, “you’re all good people” like some sort of soothing mantra before going up and doing the job himself.

Okay but can we talk about the parallels between the both dinner scenes in Black Sails? And how they mirror each other until they don’t?
Well, in the scene with Alfred Hamilton as Alfred tries to get James’ opinion Miranda is the one who jumps to his defense but is soon enough shut down by him and she complies and keeps her mouth “firmly shut.”
At the Peter Ashe’s home as Peter proposes something that will destroy James in every way possible, she is no longer willing to keep quiet.
The anger she has been holding inside all these years finally flows free and she can’t and won’t help it. Just like Thomas and his love for James that reaches such a high point at that dinner that he can no longer contain it and we see the very first physical manifestation of it in a form of the kiss they share. Also I love how Miranda’s behavior mirrors (again) what James says to Thomas: “ You are a good man and someone should be willing to defend it”. James is a good man and Miranda is willing to defend him.
What they took from Flint…
I’m listening to Toby’s interview on FD and what he has to say about Flint/McGraw’s brilliance, leadership and ability as a Naval officer and the potential high racking career for a man from a humble background that was also stripped from him.
And it has me feeling that although Thomas was his truest love, we do a great disservice to Flint/McGraw as a character when we reduced his trauma, loss and motivation to only his sexuality.
#agreed#he lost Thomas yes#that was a huge horrible trauma#but he also lost his career#he lost his home#any friends he might have had#he lost every habit he’d ever formed for going through his day#he lost a father figure#his reputation#his very name was taken from him#black sails#he literally lost everything#no one except Miranda even referred to him as James anymore
#it’s like he was killed#all that made up his life was destroyed or taken from him#and he filled the space where everything that made him james mcgraw used to be with flint#no wonder he got consumed by what was supposed to just be a temporary persona#ugh#somebody give that man a hug#james flint#black sails via @la-vie-en-lys
