thomas and james telling bedtime stories while the kid sits on miranda’s lap (100% inspired by the actors doing cbeebies bedtime stories)

miranda teaching the kid to play the clavichord. they play ‘concerts’ and james and thomas are the audience. one time thomas tears up bc look! his talented baby is so talented and wonderful! and the kid stops, jumps down and runs over to hug his knees

come on, this is a child raised by thomas hamilton. like it would be anything other than a sweetheart

small child learns to swim. thomas and miranda (who never have) watch james and the small child from the beach like ‘james are you sure this is safe’ ‘absolutely’ ‘but are you sure’ ‘thomas the water is around my knees. i am holding onto our kid. it’s fine’ ‘but…’ ‘i learnt in constantine bay in march we are in the bahama islands this is literally the perfect place for a kid to learn how to swim’

and thomas never stops being a bit worried whenever the kid goes swimming but seeing how happy it makes the kid makes it worthwhile

thomas hoisting the kid up and sitting it on the table top so they can talk face-to-face bc he remembers always hating having to look up at adults when he was small

the first time the kid correctly uses a nautical term to describe something about one of the ships in the bay James literally gets choked up

teaching the kid to read! writing short stories for it bc ‘no thomas, Meditations is not appropriate reading material for a four-year-old’
