quigonejinn:

this morning, i thought i’d finally stopped screaming about donald trump

this morning, i found out he fucking nominated jeff sessions to be attorney general, a man who was so blatantly racist and so hostile to basic democracy that he couldn’t get confirmed to be a federal judge under reagan in 1986

a white male senator from alabama whose signature issue has been racist suppression of black voters for over 30 years

who claimed the NAACP and the ACLU tried to shove voting rights reform “down the throats of people”

who called a black attorney boy on multiple occasions

who said that the kkk was okay with him until he found out they smoked pot

and then said well, it was obviously a joke

and he is going to be following the first two african-american attorney generals in the history of the united states, with the second being loretta lynch, the black female attorney general who gave this address just this fucking may about what the justice department was doing to fight HB2

welcome to trump’s america, every goddamn person who didn’t see a difference between hillary clinton and donald

Some of you all have the nerve to think that undocumented immigrants do not want to follow the immigration process so I will have to educate you regarding specifically Latinx immigration.

1) the immigration process is so expensive in itself without the costs of lawyers.
2) Most of the so called “rapists and criminals” work in the field all day with the burning sun for $1.25 a day
3) My family had to pay at least $25,000 to immigrate my mom and my sister. (which caused my family to lose our house)
4) Now tell me, where the hell do you think people can come up with that amount of money to apply? Given that Latinos are the most underpaid minority.
5) YOU ARE FUCKING IGNORANT
6) Trust me, do not think we get a fucking rush of adrenaline living undocumented.People actually fear being separated from their families. Don’t you think if they had the means necessary to prevent that they would have done it by now?
7) you owe me for educating your racist ass.

Not to mention the legal channels only apply to certain people in certain situations. So not everyone has the option of immigrating legally. When you finally can immigrate, its expensive and not a guarantee. You can do everything right, pay thousands of dollars and still not get the visa or status you’re looking for.

Undocumented immigrants pay taxes, work, and all without the legal protections that citizens of the US take for granted.

And as a friendly reminder, MALDEF could use your donations right now if you can afford to donate.

Donald Trump supporter cites Japanese internment camps as precedent for a Muslim registry

A former Navy SEAL and supporter of President-elect Donald Trump cited America’s internment of Japanese people during World War II as precedent for implementing a Muslim registry. A potential cabinet appointee also discussed a Muslim registry.

I want to punch so many people.

@keep-encouraged can we change the “three punch rule” to ten? Asking for a friend

Yes, I think we are living in extraordinary times that call for extraordinary measures.

ALSO, LISTEN UP FELLOW WHITE PEOPLE: I hope it won’t but if this unconstitutional, bigoted shit comes to pass, JOIN ME AND REGISTER.

Take them at their word. None of us are free until we are all free.

Chelsea Manning, the whistle blower responsible for providing classified material to WikiLeaks–including the captured video of U.S drone strikes purposely targeting Reuters journalist Saeed Chmagh, Namir Nool-Eldeen and several other civilian targets–has served 6 years of her 35 year prison sentence in military jail. this is more than any whistle blower in american history has ever served. she faced solitary confinement for one full year prior to her trial and has been returned to solitary confinement after attempting suicide. As a trans woman, Manning faced further persecution when seeking proper healthcare and treatment and was forced to protest in hunger strike in order to seek transition surgery.

Chelsea Manning courageously declined a plea deal during her trial, stood by her actions, and accepted the full sentence when it was announced to her. Manning is a hero who undertook an immense personal cost to bring crimes committed by American military to public attention. During a time of uncertainty, speculation and overlooked concerns, Manning substantiated the claims of Iraqi and Afghan civilians with irrefutable proof.

She is a hero who deserves a full and unconditional pardon from Barack Obama, but is only asking for release with time served for her 35 year prison sentence.

You can read the formal commutation application sent to Barack Obama here

You can donate to Chelsea Manning’s cause here

You can learn more about Chelsea Manning’s pathway to clemency here: here.

Chelsea Manning is a hero. She deserves freedom and safety and to live the life she is entitled to.

Chelsea Manning’s petition to the White House for commutation of her sentence requires 99 000 signatures by December 14th. Please sign the petition ASAP.

And you are also encouraged to send cards, letters and photographs to Chelsea at this address. Prison requirements for mail are also described in this link.

Thanks to everyone who has signed so far. The petition originally had less than 1000 signatures it now has over 7000. She still needs 93 000 before Dec. 14 so please keep circulating!!! Keep signing!! Share the petition on your own social media on FB, Twitter etc!!!

With Trump’s election and the threat of fascism, Twitter user Raphael Bob-Waksberg reminds us of Martin Niemöller’s words after WWII:

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

If that’s the case, I’m a white leftist who voted Clinton, but I understand the rage. Shocked by a Marxist who was thrilled about Trump, until I realized he believed it would spark the revolution in the USA. Playing with people’s lives for kicks.

I am so fucking DONE with the (predominantly white) entitled leftists who advance that argument.

A friend of mine articulated it beautifully:

“A Trump presidency is /highly/ unlikely to inspire The People to finally recognize the injustice of our social and economic order and rise up as one to destroy it, etc. Historically speaking, this idea really doesn’t have much or any grounding. The worse things get, the more time and energy and money and social capital and so on people have to expend just to get through a day and protect themselves and their loved ones. They will have even less of a chance to get involved in creating structural change; they will be even more wholly swallowed by urgent personal concerns.

The largest, most significant, most successful protest movements in the US in the 20th century emerged during an era of rising prosperity and financial security and falling income inequality. That’s not a coincidence.

I reject the leftist trope that things need to get worse before they get better. Putting aside the ethical problems with this claim, there just isn’t any evidence for it.”

We’re already see this play out, horrifyingly. Last week, progressive Democrats were saying things like “remember, after we win, we hold ourselves and our candidate accountable; we’ll do better, we’ll make real changes.”

Today, people are talking about surviving without health insurance, without life-saving medication. About surviving deportation and families being torn apart. About violence and jubilant demonstrations from neo-Nazis. About what happens when we lose the last sixty years of hard-won, hard-fought social progress and social safety nets. About labor rights and protections.

We will not have energy to fix our flawed liberalism, because every scrap of energy, power, and influence will instead go towards bare survival.

Last week, we were talking about how much we could change the status quo for the better.

Today, we are desperately reaching for ways to keep the status quo – to keep healthcare, legal protections for LGBTQ folks, reproductive rights.

Last week, the status quo wasn’t good enough. Today, we know we’ll be incredibly fortunate if we can keep it.

That’s what radical leftists don’t want to understand and that’s what they don’t care about because it is never ever EVER their lives and their human rights at stake.

This is sociologically tested. Economic inequality/material insecurity has a negative relationship to elite-challenging behaviors and liberty aspiration.  Economic insecurity also has strong connections to increases in conservatism and authoritarianism. There’s a reason fascism tends to get stronger in economic depressions.

People who are fighting to survive just do not have the same resources for mobilization and action that those who have some level of basic assurance that they won’t lose what little they have trying to find the time and energy to seek improvements.

If you want change, the best bet is a foundation of education, support, and security. Burning everything down will just kill your own people inside the house.
