Loreena McKennitt, hell yeah! First person I’ve “met” who’s ever heard of her.

I grew up listening to her music back when The Mummer’s Dance hit almost the top of the charts in the late nineties. I got through large portions of my senior year of college by just turning up her Mediterranean Odyssey cd and writing about the snow trade in the medieval era

My first memory of her music is of being on a long car trip with my family.  My dad had her music playing, and I clearly remember driving through a stark landscape to “The Highwayman.”  Been hooked ever since.

oh my gods I love that one! I found the original poem and I almost wish she’d included another verse or two, because you find out that the stable hand was a complete jealous asshole and there’s all kinds of symbolism around the highwayman being in love with her eyes and the stablehand being focused only on his lust symbolized by her lips – 

*coughs* sorry, I’ll stop nerding at you now. Anyway, I love that song!
