OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOD WHO IS ARCHIBALD

I’m SO GLAD you asked! Archibald was the governor of Jamaica from 1711 to 1716, and for fic purposes, I’m headcanoning him as Thomas’ second cousin on his father’s side. Archibald was a Navy officer before he was a governor and I’m reasonably certain that he and James would have served together – probably even both been involved in at least one battle, although most likely on different ships. Archibald was also just about Thomas’ age – if we go with the notion that Thomas was about 32 or so in 1705, then he and Archibald would have been born the same year. Previously I had been headcanoning him as Thomas’ uncle, but the dates just don’t work as Alfred would have to have been born long before Archibald’s oldest brother, thereby making him a duke rather than an earl. I’ve inserted Alfred elsewhere in the family and the backstory actually makes him make sense in an awful kind of way – want to hear it?
