so like do you think about how excited thomas was to visit james’ flat? james keeps telling him it’s plain and nothing special but thomas is adamant bc it’s where JAMES LIVES so OF COURSE IT IS SPECIAL. And thomas walks in and soaks up all the james-ness and he’s just so happy to be there and share james’ space with him and he’s more comfortable there than in any aristocratic home he’s ever stayed in.

in return: imagine before they get together, thomas being like ‘i want to learn about ships, teach me james.‘ and so james goes off to get the books he used to study when he was preparing for his lieutenant’s exam, and gives them to thomas. and then thomas is like ‘aah I SHALL USE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO LEND YOU SOME OF MY FAVOURITE BOOKS’

and james is just going ‘but – but mine were old and cheap and i don’t use them anymore – there are expensive and nice and they are your favourites i can’t -’
