Here’s a random idea/thought on the topic of pirate!Thomas (which may make it into a fic). This is @comtessedebussy ‘s fault. 

What if Thomas managed to escape Bethlam and somehow make it onto a ship to the new world (and so he was assumed dead, or Alfred didn’t want that detail to make it out). 

Thomas decides he wants to become a pirate, and joins a crew, not from Nassau but some other port. Working on a crew he doesn’t get to do much but he tries to search for Miranda and James, hearing only that they went to Nassau. 

He hears about how his father was killed by Captain Flint, and he hears all the stories of Captain Flint and puts it all together. So he sets out for Nassau to find James at the first opportunity.

Unfortunately, the pirate ship he’s on gets attacked out of Charlestown and all the survivors are captured, set to be hung for piracy. Though Peter Ashe, the one so set on hunting down pirates after Alfred’s death, sees Thomas and sends him to the plantation, “saving him” from his death. (I mean they said the governor used it.)

He was so close to finding James, and over the years he listens closely to the stories of Captain Flint 

Well, I’m here for all the pirate Thomas, although I do rather prefer the stories in which he becomes a pirate captain. 

but hey if his ship gets attacked and he gets put on trial for piracy in Charlestown…what if that’s happening at the same time as a certain Captain Flint is being put on trial in Charlestown? And that is how they are reunited. 

And then of course Charles Vane shows up to save the day and rescue both of his pirate boyfriends of them

I’m not sure if it makes it more angsty or not but: (I’m sure you’re gonna make it more angsty)

So maybe Thomas doesn’t have any problems with Flint. He just knows that he killed Alfred and otherwise isn’t sure if he wants to ever interact with him given his reputation (besides some sort of alliance or something)

Thomas doesn’t know shit about sailing and talks like a fucking English lord so it takes his some time to move up on the crew but people like him and see his rage and in a few years he’s captain.

So Captain Flint and Captain Marcus literally sail around each other for years.

Charles Vane has had some sort of relationship with both Flint and Marcus at one point or another.

So Flint is in Charlestown and at the one they’re on high alert and they catch Thomas’ ship trying to leave and want to put all the pirates on trial. Ashe recognizes him and decides to send him to the plantation and Thomas realizes he’s the one who betrays him so idk he stabs/maybe kills him and breaks out, running into James and Mirnada (aka Flint and Barlow)

But they’re captured and put on trial and Vane shows up and heard that both Flint and Marcus (his two pirate BFs) are together and about to be killed so he’s all FUCK and saves the day.

So from that day on he them all like this: “Hello, my name is Thomas Marcus, this is my pirate wife, Miranda Barlow, this is my pirate husband, James Flint, and that is our pirate boyfriend Charles Vanes.”
