For those of you with employer sponsored healthcare thinking the ACA replacement won’t affect you….YOU ARE WRONG

This bill allows employers to decide ‘nah insurance is eating our bottom line, we don’t have to offer it now.’ It allows them to opt of of certain parts of plans. Like prescription drugs, women’s wellness exams, children’s wellness exams, the list is long. They, with the help of the insurance companies can tailor what they offer to exclude basic services or increase premiums for certain people.

For example, my employer, with over 2500 employees nationwide, charges people who smoke more per week for the premium. I have mixed feeling about this, but unlike a chronic disease you didn’t ask for, smoking is a choice for the most part. My employer does actually fully pay for any type of smoking cessation program though, so I can’t bitch too much. 

But just imagine if they could do that to people who are diabetic, or have high blood pressure, or cancer or heart disease, et.

Imagine if you will, that your coworker, who has never had so much as a cold pays 7/week, where you with multiple chronic illnesses has to pay 207/week.

DO NOT THINK THAT THIS DOESN’T AFFECT US ALL.

DO NOT SIT ON YOUR LAURELS BECAUSE YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE EMPLOYER SPONSORED HEALTHCARE.

We are all fucked if this passes.

Call your reps. Show up at their office during the holiday. Even if they don’t appear, your presence will be known. The only way to kill this is VERY public outcry. Don’t let Mitch McConnell strong arm the Republicans that are resisting. Show them appreciation for taking a stand, let them know you see it and will reward it down the line.
