A little bit of follow up.
1. This is real, get a freebie email account to use.
2. This is not exactly a “Net Neutrality” issue. This article at Tech Crunch goes into more detail, but it has a lot more to do with disentangling old partnerships that are no longer valid. Those email domains, due to being partnered with Yahoo were granted automatic access to some Yahoo-owned platforms because of the AT&T partnership. this appears to be a side effect of disentangling user databases that weren’t designed to split up cleanly if the Yahoo/AT&T partnership ended – which it has. If anything, this is more a warning about side effects of attempting to create a not-quite-monopoly and it ending. Users are running into an inconvenience because of a messy merging of company proprietary data that now (I assume for legal reasons) must be separated. Rather than a cse of emails being blocked because of a violation of anti-competition practices (which is what it looks like on the surface) it’s actually the result of a changed business deal where an attempt to grow a user base by preventing the need to create new accounts has created a logistics problem. It shouldn’t have happened, but sometimes databases and code aren’t designed to work the way we would like them to, because whomever coded/maintained them never considered this use case..
