dramas about the late roman republic are really great but what we really need is a comedy, something like parks and rec. like, hear me out:
- every time cicero gets started on one of his 5 hour speeches, somebody in the audience (usually clodius pulcher) looks at the camera like they’re on the office
- speaking of clodius, him showing up to parties wearing clothing belonging to the host’s wife is a recurring joke
- mark antony shows up to political meetings wearing booty shorts that say “are you nasty”
- there is an entire subplot dedicated to caesar trying to regrow his hair, complete with trump-esque toupe
- clodia has a new boy-toy in every episode she appears in. sometimes she changes bfs within the episode. no attention is drawn to this fact
- meetings of the senate are very similar to pawnee town hall meetings in that most of the time is spent listening to senators making inane complaints while the consuls try to keep a straight face (e.g. “i want to know WHY there aren’t more seats for SENATORS in the circus maximus. I WANNA SIT MORE”)
- cato, despite being younger than a lot of the senators, talks ceaselessly about “the good old days.” literally everyone looks into the camera like they’re on the office when this happens
