I fricking love Hennessey and somehow I think that if Alfred were going to do this he wouldn’t warn Hennessey because at that point he’d either a. present it as doing Hennessey a favor by keeping things quiet and not making public accusations or b. be maneuvering Hennessey into doing something at the same time (because Alfred is a spider, the worst kind, the kind that likes the Xanatos gambit) and he’d present it as do what I want or I ruin you and kill the spare. I wish that I did not know him as well as I do but like every other character I write I have Headcanon and what I have for him makes me hate him even worse.
oh yes, he’d definitely present it as him doing Hennessey a favour (the shit). I meant like, sending him a message either as the deed is being carried out, or just after – pretending it’s something he thinks Hennessey will be grateful for, when really they both know it’s not. I’m also wondering if Hennessey and/or Miranda would try and visit one or both of them in prison. I mean, they definitely allowed visitors
I could see Hennessey coming and paying the Keeper/Warden to keep it quiet and yes, being really angry at Thomas up until that point because he blames him and Miranda for getting James into this but then realizing that this isn’t just some noble larking about and not giving a crap but that Thomas actually does care about James. Miranda would likely be occupied with trying to build herself a position from which she could help Hennessey get them out – in canon Alfred had disowned her along with Thomas, meaning that she’d either have to fight him legally and risk James’ and Thomas’ relationship being publicly disclosed or have to come up with something else clever.
Especially if Hennessey hadn’t met Thomas before, because just remembering the way Thomas looks at James after the kiss I just… can’t imagine anyone thinking that James isn’t important to him.

YAAASS this, 10000% this! I don’t think Hennessey had ever met Thomas or Miranda and he could see the danger they presented but he’d never seen them look at James or James look at them because no they were not subtle, not one bit! And yes, I too live for outside perspectives on the OT3, especially Hennessey’s, and I had somehow not thought about the paradigm shift it would be for Hennessey to realize that yes, someone other than himself now cares about James as much as he does. That would take some getting used to by itself, I think! And I 100% want the moment that Hennessey realizes that he now has a son and a son-in-law and daughter-in-law as well when he never expected to have one kid let alone three! That, and I love the juxtaposition of Alfred who is Thomas’ actual father and never, I think, gave one single shit about him as anything other than an heir and Hennessey, who is not James’ actual father but does his damndest to keep him alive the way any (decent) father would even if he has to break both their hearts in the process.
