A small thought: what if the reason Alfred Hamilton was traveling across the Atlantic under a secret name was to visit his son?
What if he was going to bring him home, but flint killed him first…
What if he got worried someone might find out the truth and was going to the Colonies to have Thomas killed. Flint unknowingly saved Thomas’ life by offing Alfred when he did. (I like this idea better. *G*)
What if he’d just dropped Thomas off and if Flint had just caught his ship a bit faster he might have found Thomas and reunited with him much earlier?
