As expected, Trump’s first budget proposal includes drastic cuts
to many programs, including AmeriCorps, PBS, National Endowment for the
Arts and Humanities, and the Legal Services Corporation. These
programs provide vital services and information to the public and
comprise a small portion of the federal budget. Eliminating these
programs won’t make an appreciable difference in the federal budget, but
will adversely impact the organizations and people that depend on the services. Here is information and links on these individual organizations. If any of these programs are particularly near and dear to you, I would
encourage you to find advocacy organizations that you can donate to or
engage with to help advocate to maintain funding. For example, I am
passionate about history education, so I will be participating in the
Humanities Advocacy Day in March through the National Humanities
Alliance.AmeriCorps is a service program that engages people in community services programs all over the country.
