He was also the president that allowed the Patriot Act to become a thing and lowered our standards as to what we expect to be safe from government surveillance in the process. His presidency is where the terror alert scale comes from and the atmosphere of fear and suspicion that came with it. In short, Bush’s presidency helped to create an atmosphere where Trump could get elected by running on fear of POC and foreigners. Bush also tanked the economy, and the poor economy is what allowed Trump’s lies about fixing it to sound so goddamned appealing that people would ignore all manner of other serious problems with him as a person to vote for him.
