Headcanon that Galen Erso was like a father figure to Bodhi Rook. There was just so much trust between them, and the line Bodhi says at the end about Galen was just ;___; *sigh
I’d like to think that much like Finn in TFA, Bodhi was taken from his family young and forced to work at the bottom rung of the Empire. He most likely had an awful experience to put it mildly.
So imagine sweet, young Bodhi finding a genuine friend in the midst of the Empire’s cruelty. And Galen missing his daughter immensely, seeing little Bodhi and immediately feeling protective over him cause he’s reminded so much of her. Or maybe he sees how different they are and wonders how they would get along, finding some comfort in imagining them playing together and realizing that Bodhi would be the more timid one.
Bodhi trusting Galen enough to confide he doesn’t like living under the Empire’s regime. Galen trusting Bodhi enough to tell him about Jyn, not an easy feat to say the least. And finally believing in Bodhi enough to send him away with such a pivotal message.
In short, I like to think that Galen and Bodhi formed a fatherly bond that kept them both alive and sane during their time under the Empire.
