i just spent the last couple weeks binge-watching Black Sails with some friends, and oooh boooy if any of you are looking for some Good Content to immerse yourselves in, then look no fuckin further. these are some of the best few seasons of television that i’ve seen in a really long time. it’s nowhere near as popular as it should be, and i think that’s probs because the REALLY AWESOME THING in it is a huge character spoiler, and so people who’ve seen it can’t ever convince anyone else to watch it without giving away a big part of the story. but y’all. trust me. it’s good.
it’s a high-budget, high-drama, high-seas epic about a bunch of morally compromised people doing a lot of morally compromised things. think Game of Thrones if it wasn’t made by a bunch of gross, heteronormative edgelords. it’s got disabled characters, lgbt characters, poly relationships, a ton of women with a ton of agency, characters of color, and really doesn’t have a cliche bone in its body. it pretty much has everything i’ve ever wanted out of a piece historical fiction.
(it is however pretty gory and potentially triggery. obviously not for everyone)
but yeah. you should watch it.
