Where do you publish your work?

Ao3. I’ve had one scholarly article published in an extremely minor journal but it’s hardly worth mentioning, and a couple of very old fanfics sitting out on fanfic.net under another name.

What medium/application/etc. do you write in or with?

Google Docs and pen and paper. I got tired of computer malfunctions losing me hours or days or weeks worth of work.

Do you collaborate with others

I’m actually extremely nervous about collaborating, simply because it comes with deadlines I’m not ever sure I can meet. There are a couple people I could think of that I would be willing to collaborate with, but they’re all kind of prolific and I’m very slow by comparison.

How much editing do you do before you publish?

So much editing. All the editing. If you see one of my fics, you can bet I’ve been over it ten or eleven or twelve times before it ever sees the light of Ao3.

Do you listen to music when you write?

Not very often. I can listen to the Black Sails soundtrack, or classical music (usually Bach or Vivaldi), but nothing with words.

How do you decide what to write about?

I’m mostly a what-if and a fix-it writer – both at the same time if I can manage it!

When do you write?

Any old time I have time. As odd as this is going to sound, I get a lot of writing done at work, especially over the summer.

How often do you write?

Pretty much every day with occasional day or two long breaks to refresh and recharge.

Do you take requests? Why/why not?

I actually started writing for Black Sails on a kind of request, so yes! I prefer the open prompt format, though, so that I can choose whether or not to take a given prompt instead of taking direct requests.

Is there any genre or type of story you want to write but are hesitant to?

I really, really hesitate over writing smut. One of these days I’m going to screw up my courage (ha! ok that was terrible don’t bother to laugh) and write some, but I really haven’t done it yet.

Any inspirational quotes, videos, tricks, articles, etc. that help you stay motivated?

This is going to sound odd, but I basically keep telling myself that if Fifty Shades of Grey could get published, then I’m fine because whatever I write is bound to be better than that.

Go to page 7 of your WIP, skip to the 7th line, and share 7 sentences.

You’re not going to believe this, but I honestly do not have 7 pages of any of my current projects completed. I know – it’s terrible but true, so here’s seven sentences from the first couple of pages of the one I’m currently doing. It’s the Flint wakes up to find himself eleven years in the past and still known as James McGraw fic I’ve been promising Shiro.

He was comfortable. He was also wearing a nightshirt, and lying in a room that he did not recognize (or did he? It was familiar and yet -)

The knock on the door interrupted his attempt to remember where the hell he was, and he sat up in the bed.

“Yes?” His voice sounded odd – less hoarse, somehow, as if he had not used it to shout orders at anyone in quite some time, and yet he did not remember any such welcome time away from the ship. Had he been drinking? If so, what, and for how long? He shook his head, trying to clear it.

“Lieutenant McGraw? Message for you, sir.”

Tagging @shirogiku, @reluming, @char7, @thewalruscaptain, and anybody else that wants to do it!
