Guys, this is Keystone 2.0, now with more people directly in line to end up like Flint once there’s a spill (and there will be a spill – every major pipeline in the US/Canada has had a spill). See Martin County or Ashland for examples of what communities could be dealing with in case of a large spill. The long-term effects are devastating for community health, local economies, and the environment. The Yellowstone River itself has been contaminated twice in the past 5 years from spills.

But this goes beyond empathy for fellow human beings and the environment – if you live in the US, it affects you personally. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, let me explain: your food mostly comes from central and western states, but it doesn’t rain much in most of these places areas outside of winter. Agriculture exists because of massive irrigation projects bringing water from the rivers to the farms. The rivers in these areas are literally the source of your food, and this pipeline is positioned high up in the tributary branches of the Mississippi, putting the entire central US river system in danger. Poisoning the rivers poisons the people here  – and poisons your food. This isn’t a local emergency; it’s a national one.
