Hi why do you love flint more than silver? I keep going back and forth between the two and can’t decide who I adore more.

ellelan:

Why choose? You can love both! Thats what I do! 😉 Anyways,I will try to answer and this is going to be one of these long rambling posts noone asked for-but I will do my best to explain. I love both Silver and Flint, but it is no secret that I favor Flint above every other character and he has the most special place in my heart.

They are very different, Silver and Flint and that is why I love and treat them differently. One of the reasons I love Flint more is very simple – I know Flint better. Flint is like an open book to us by now, as we were shown the complexity and the layers, tragedy, needs and loves of this character. I understand who he was and how he became the man he is today and I love everything in betweens. The story of Flint is like a Greek tragedy and he is like a hero of old, to me he is as epic as any of great mythological heroes. He is bigger than life, he is impossible and overwhelming, powerful unlike any other – a man who burned down the world for 10 years because his beloved was taken from him. To fight a war in a name of the man he still loves, after all these years?

Who does that?! Noone ever, but Flint and that is amazing to me. Of course I am very much aware of all of his flaws, I mean his egomania is magnificent! LOL  But that only makes him ever more appealing to me,as I always preferred dark and unapologetic characters and he is both.

Silver, unlike Flint is still mostly a mystery to me. We need to figure him out all the time, we don’t have his backstory and have to piece together little bits of information provided by the show + our own interpretations. That has an appeal of it’s own because who doesn’t enjoy solving a puzzle, right? He is fascinating and intelligent and a master of reading and bending people to his will. Long John Silver is a character I knew from my childhood and so I was aware of who he is about to become and that is the most legendary of all pirates in literature and history. I LOVE watching him change and evolve into Long John, the only man Flint ever feared (but was proud of). Silver’s transformation is actually my favorite storyline of the show.

Another reason I probably love Flint more is how unique the character is. There was never a character like him on TV before and doubt there will be one after him. The ambitious ,brilliant, complex and

terrifying, a total badass, a most feared pirate of all, man who slaughtered thousands and burned down colonies and has sailed through a fucking storm, survived Doldrums and stole the warship under Spaniards nose. All of that and GAY? Never happened before. All of that and someone, who actually only wants a home and his books and some peace and quiet? Nope. And that makes Flint special to me.

I can go on and on,write odes to him and create edits to worship his obscene thighs (lol me) and I will always feel like I haven’t said enough – that there is something else to add. I love Flint. He is God among men. Hope this answers your question, anon?:)
