Recently I’ve been rewatching season 2 of Black Sails and upon rewatching I discovered how amazing Miranda Barlow is. I know that many people have talked about how strong in the face of all the ridicule she faced (@biclarkent’s amazing posts about Miranda) and I totally agree but I also want to talk to loyal and caring she was towards Flint all those years and how smart she was as well. 

I remember when I was watching season 1 I was just not having it with Miranda. In my eyes she was just kind of there not really doing anything but now I see how so very wrong I was. For one I didn’t realize the full extent of how loyal she was to Flint. I was thinking about that quote in season 3, when she says that she’s been a mother to him, and at first I was like :// but then I realized how accurate it was.

I mean the show takes place a good 10 years after they met for the first time so it must have been about seven or eight years since they moved to Nassau, since then Miranda has been committed and loyal to Flint even though he is hardly ever there, leaving her to deal with those horrible townspeople. 

No, Miranda Barlow has stayed by his side and cared for him when no one else would. Hell, she’s done a fucking amazing job considering that Flint is a maniac, who I’m surprised hasn’t died sooner. 

Secondly, I want to point out how smart she is. I mean we know she is well read, considering by the time the series starts she ought to have a fucking library in her house if that’s what Flint gets her on his pirating adventures. Plus as seen in one of the earlier episodes of season 2 (2.02, 2.03??) she can speak or at least read more than one language (she gives James Don Quixote in Spanish) although being upper class where women were more likely to be educated, it is impressive that she was that well educated considering the time period and the fact that she was a woman. 

I know that many people talk about how Flint, Max and to a greater extent Silver can a.) read people and b.) manipulate them to get what they want. Miranda is also extremely talented in that field. I mean time and time again she reads Flint extremely accurately even when he himself doesn’t know what he feels (a.k.a. in 2.05 when she accurately reads why he wants the fort for himself, even when Flint has convinced himself that he is fighting to save Nassau. 

And last but not least, she successfully concocts a plan to get the pardons and save’s Nassau. In 2.05, when Flint is all ready to blow up the island and rule his pile of rubble, it is Miranda who tells him about Abigail and formulates their plan to go to the Carolinas and with the good graces that they bought by bringing Abigail back, get Thomas’s original plan back on track. Many people on the island have plans to save Nassau but Miranda created a plan that if it had gone through would have saved Nassau (with probably a hell of a lot less tension than WR’s) before Woodes Rogers even stepped foot on the island.

Basically I love Miranda with all my heart and she is a queen. 

Sorry if I’m respewing what other people have said idk, just my rant about miranda.
