I’m watching a usa made documentary. The music effects and the narration are so dramatic lol why
It makes things look laughable even when it’s not the case

American documentaries are awful

In my first year of university, I took a course on the history of medicine, and we watched this American-made documentary about the black plague, and every break in sequence had this jump-shaky picture of a skull with all these photoshop filters tossed on top of it, alongside this ‘scary’ screaming sound effect.

There was a part where they talked about how sometimes squirells got the plague, and they had the most dramatic music and narration while they showed picnic tables without people at them, a squirrel going about its usual business, a hazard sign with a cartoon drawing of diseased squirrel on it, and some frumpy looking park ranger in a neon vest talking very slowly about how sometimes squirrels had diseases that could be passed to humans.

It was absurd, and I kept laughing every time the stupid little skull graphic came up.

When I was at the gym once there were televisions playing, respectively, FOX news and the Beeb. There had been a car bomb in London. The FOX news report literally featured a full-screen flaming all-caps title that said LONDON BURNING with all sorts of animated horror shenanigans going on in the background. They basically acted like London had Fallen To The Terrorists.

On the BBC, nearly simultaneously, the newscaster looked at his notes, said “There was an attempted car bombing in London earlier this morning. The police have disarmed the bomb and investigations are continuing.” And then the news ended. It was barely a footnote.

Ok, in all fairness, that was Fox, which is kind of the equivalent of the Daily Mail only in newscast format, and they were talking about bombing, which in the American mindset equates to terrorists, which means that the propaganda machine had been at work, because Fox News is run by Republicans who don’t want to have people start seriously digging into just how unjustified their war in the Middle East and their intrusive security measures here at home are. I promise we do in fact have such things as documentaries and news broadcasts that aren’t 100% sensationalized.
