spacecatboy:

ok as promised a screenshot analysis of bagginshield/kiliel parallels in bofa (and dos)

for dos, the infamous boot-stops-important-thing-from-falling-and-being-lost-forever parallel

another for dos; tauriel says ‘i’m going to save him’ and the scene changes directly to thorin running into the mountain to save bilbo (thank you anon for the suggestion!)

a cross-movie parallel; incredibly similar dialogue, followed by a scene in which the owner of the thing in their hand explains it to the opposite character, and gains their adoration

related

these shots are exactly the same

we go most of the rest of the movie without interaction between tauriel and kili so the next time we get a parallel is when tauriel and bilbo are staring up at ravenhill in horror, having realized thorin and kili are up there and are going to be slaughtered. this could just be a normal ‘oh no they’ll die’ obligatory reaction but for the fact that these two characters are the only ones who get the shots. bilbo is also talking specifically about thorin when we see him, and when he starts talking about fili and kili the camera switches to tauriel

this one is hard to get screenshots of, but i took some anyway just to represent the scenes – thorin and kili must be warned of their peril. bilbo tells gandalf he’s going to go up there himself, and gandalf protests, telling him they will see him and kill him – directly following this scene, thranduil is leaving, planning on letting the dwarves die, and when tauriel protests, saying he must help, he turns to belittling her experiences out of his own bitterness. in the end both bilbo and tauriel go up, opposing interference/emotional manipulation from authority figures

hand-holding. it’s difficult to see bilbo and thorin’s hands when the scene is not in motion (and because it’s halfway cropped out) but it’s definitely happening

a literal kissing shot with thorin and bilbo, later consummated by tauriel and kili

dying looking at each other, same placement

curled around dead partner

while mourning, the mentor figure comes along to comfort them. same placement. these scenes also take place directly after one another, bilbo-tauriel-bilbo, a stark indication that these incidents are directly related and should come across the same way

this is all i could remember, let me know if i missed something so i can add on ;0
